I like it. Quality insurance for Cohen/Montgomery. Not sure this
precludes us from bringing back Patterson, but I'd say we have
guys that can return kicks at this point.

Who? Miller or Mooney? Bears don't have a lot of speedsters.
Hope they can re-sign Patterson.

Patterson is a great gunner too, easily one of the better ones
in the league. I hope they bring him back, but he'd probably
have to accept a pay cut. I think today's Damien Williams
signing replaces CP's role in the offense, which is a good
thing.

Mooney was returning punts toward end of year. Cohen has done it
as well.
Artavis Pierce could probably carve out a niche in that area if
they worked with him. Williams returned kicks in Miami.
Kick Returns have less value now because the new rules mean most
kicks go out of the end zone anyway.

Mooney never returned anything in college. He returned one
kickoff for the Bears and that didn't work out so well. He
never returned punts. But we have Cohen for that.
Pierce may not make the team with the Williams signing. Unlike
Nail he's not a STer.
Williams was the regular kick returned in Miami way back in
2015. Career average just below 20.
Patterson's career average is just under 30. Patterson
returned 35 kicks in 2020.
Sign Patterson.

I'm against signing Patterson simply because Nagy will keep
playing him at RB.
At the end of last yrs training camp I said it was disastrous
that the Bears didn't cut Cowart as it meant he'd be played by
Nagy to the team's detriment.
Sometimes subtraction is addition, especially with an idiot like
Nagy

And why did he play Patterson? Cohen's injury possibly.
And now he's signed a legit productive experienced backup in
Damien Williams. No reason to play Patterson at HB as much as
he played it in 2020. He still might be used sparingly at WR.
He's a swiss army knife on offense.
The question is how much can he get elsewhere?
