Considering Schwarber's defensive issues, a DH only guy who
didn't got might have a hard time finding a contract.

I had kinda though Adam Eaton might be a good option in LF, but
man Jurkson Profar would be perfect. He has positional
flexibility, but he was pretty for the Padres in LF, does well
against velocity, contact hitter and he can hit lefties. Craig
Edwards had him at 2 years with an AAV of $4.5 million.
If the Cubs trade Contreras Curt Caseli would be a great pairing
with Caratini. He crushed lefties last year.
Stanek and Middleton would be some hard throwers to target in
the pen.
Depending on price Paxton or Rodon could make an interesting
lefty for the rotation.
A reunion with LaStella for lead off and second would work well
too.

I'd expect LaStella to be too expensive for the Cubs.
I think Profar would be a good fit at that price. I also think
the Cubs should target David Dahl. There's a lot to worry about
with him (well, primarily injuries), but he has upside and 3
years of team control left. Since no one traded for him before
the non-tender deadline, that also means he's probably not going
to make much more than the ~$2.5 million he would've gotten in
arbitration. The Cubs need to figure out a way to produce some
semi-long term value out of nowhere, and he seems like their
best chance on the market.
I could see Rodon as a possibility, but I bet Paxton will get
too much money for the Cubs to sign him. He has enough of a
track record that someone will give him $8-$10 million with
incentives or something.

I like Dahl as an option too, but you do have to wonder if
Colorado knows something we don't to N-T him at that price with
three years of control left. Then again, they are frequently a
stupid organization.
Profar is an interesting one. Not actually good defensively
anywhere, but can play multiple positions at a not-awful level.
Has had two decent offensive seasons and a lot of bad ones, but
only 27 and formerly the #1 prospect in the game. Seems like a
typical Cubs target, but probably better suited to be a
super-utility man than an everyday corner OF.

The Cubs have a CF putting up corner OF numbers, they can give
up offense to diversify the offense. Profar is a pretty decent
LF. He isn’t a drag there like he is in the infield.
Dahl has a career 26% K% that has the increased every year and
can’t hit lefties. Throw in the injury has story and he’s a
worse version of Schwarber.
LaStella is 31, a defensive liability. I don’t think he’ll break
the bank. Wong would be another option. There are some pretty
decent options at second beyond those two.

Since eaton signed with chisox and the cubs need a leadoff
hitter..they will sign George Springer...if Springer signs
elsewhere,,,Cubs will sign Brantley. ERSPN lists Cubs with only
2 OFs.

Is that just speculation, or are the Cubs meaningfully linked to
Springer/Brantley?
