I recall rumors that the Yankees wanted Schwarber for Andrew
Miller. If that was true, the one do over I壇 ask for would be
making that trade instead of the Chapman trade. Having the back
end of the bullpen locked down for a few years instead of
constantly looking for a new closer plus having Gleybar would
have been nice.

It would have been a totally different World Series so who
knows? Is Cleveland there without Miller? I guess they would
have ended up with Chapman but would that have worked as well in
the Al playoffs (Miller was the MVP)? Impossible to say. I知
glad they won, of course, but in retrospect I wish that move had
been made instead. I think they would have been just as good in
2016 and better in the subsequent years.

It's an interesting hypothetical we'll never know. Objectively
Miller was not just more valuable because of team control, but a
more valuable pitcher. Will Miller on-hand there's no need to
make the Soler-Davis trade, and Soler and Gleyber are part of
the ongoing offensive mix. I have no doubt Miller was good
enough to do for us what Chapman did. But Schwarber's
contribution in the WS, who knows. He was genuinely valuable on
the field and I think he really inspired the team that year.

I'm kind of surprised the Cubs non-tendered Tepera but kept Rea,
Winkler, and Ryan. I guess it came down to money--Tepera was
good enough this year that he'd get $2-$3 million.

Is Tepera the first player in MLB history to get non-tendered
after getting an MVP vote?

Definitely about the money. Rea, Winkler, and Ryan all get less
than $1 million. Tepera probably wanted their combined total.
