Sugano is one of the icons of NPB, though he doesn't have the
overpowering pure stuff of Darvish or Otani. Basically a three
pitch guy - low-90s fastball, slider/cutter, splitter. Manages
to be elite here because he commands all his pitches on an elite
level. I would describe him as a more durable Maeda Kenta.
Arihara is the lesser prospect IMO. Crafty Japanese baller,
throws multiple pitches for strikes and rarely gives away walks.
Can reach 92-93, best pitch is his splitter. I would say he's
a fringe #3/#4 type, though he does seem to be on the upswing
and is only 28.

Will either of them work for meal money, since that's all the
Cubs claim they can afford.

I think you're giving the Cubs too much credit.

I would love to have Sugano in a Cub uniform for all the reasons
Deeg has listed. He's no Darvish but he'd be a solid addition
to the rotation.

> Potentially arbitration eligible players have been getting
pared from 40-man rosters since the offseason began, but those
that remain will be subject to the non-tender deadline. This
deadline is at 8pm ET on Wednesday, December 2nd. By that
point, teams must inform arbitration-eligible players whether
they will receive a non-guaranteed contract for the 2020 season,
or else become free agents. Once a player is tendered a
contract, the two sides will have another roughly two months to
work out salaries before arbitration hearings kick off in
February. Non-tendered players immediately become free agents
who can sign with another team for any amount. Those will be
added to our free agent list and tracker.

Kris Bryant is a target of the Nats, but Nats are determined to
keep young pitchers Rutledge and Cavalli. As I just said on
@MLBNetwork despite speculation Bryant will indeed be tendered a
contract by Cubs on tender/nontender day Wednesday. Other teams
that fit KB: Mets, SF, Tor

Thanks, big news, nice to hear. Hope he has a healthy and
productive season!
Kind of nice to have one decision made, given how every decision
impacts others.

I wish it made total 100% baseball sense to keep Bryant. I'm
definitely going to hate seeing him dealt to someone else, even
if it is the right thing for us to be doing.
