Hoyer is taking over. Someone tweeted that they’re working on an
       extension.

Not that being GM in the Cubs' management structure is as
important as it was in the Jim Hendry days, but I wonder who
will be filling the GM spot. McLeod?

I was assuming Hoyer is taking over as club president.

Hoyer is moving into Theo role, they didn't announce the new GM.
I don't think McLeod is in line for a promotion, he was kinda
side lined. Kantrovitz is my guess. It sounded like when Scott
Harris left for Giants there wasn't an in house replacement for
Hoyer. Porter would be nice to bring back from the D-backs.

Kantrovitz sounds like a pretty decent guess to me too.
Actually considering what the GM role is becoming, he might
could still run our draft perhaps and be the GM?
Honestly, I'd rather he stay scouting director than get the bump
to GM if we have to choose one or the other.

       The Athletic mentioned
       Jeff Greenberg, AGM
       Kantrovitz
       Jared Porter
       Amiel Sawdaye
I really no nothing about Greenberg. Kantrovitz has turned down
other GM roles to continue to run the draft. If that's what he
wants then more power to him. Porter and Sawdaye are with the
D-Backs. Porter has worked with the Cubs and Red Sox. Sawdaye,
I believe, was post-Jed with the Red Sox.
Here's a write on Greenberg for Bleacher Nation..
Jeff Greenberg has been promoted to Director of Baseball
Operations. Greenberg joined the Cubs in 2012 as a baseball
operations intern and was later promoted to Assistant to the
General Manager prior to the 2015 campaign. Before working with
the Cubs, Greenberg interned for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2006,
2008), Arizona Diamondbacks (2010) and the Labor Relations
Department at Major League Baseball (2009-2011). A native of
Pittsburgh, PA, Greenberg is a graduate of Columbia Law School
(JD, 2011) and the University of Pennsylvania (BA, 2008).
I'd like one of the D-Backs guys to get a different voice in the
room, or at least one that hasn't been in the room for awhile.
Judging the FO guys is nearly impossible though.

Seems like getting someone from either the TB or LA family tree
(which have significant overlap themselves) would be a good bet.

Maybe he should go GM the Detroit Lions.
