From the spring games I’ve seen, Schwarber has been working on
hitting certain pitches to the opposite field all spring. But,
without hitting with power overall, which isn’t a great
tradeoff. So, nice to see the opposite field homer today—-and
off a tough lefty too.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out during the season.
Would be nice to see Schwarber hit .260+ and with the usual
power.

Thanks for Schwarber observations, reb. Agree that without a
lot of HR's Schwarber isn't going to be good, and if adjustments
come at the expense of HR's, I'm not sure how that's going to
pay off. HR's are hits, too; given what a low-average hitter he
is, he can't really afford to give away too many hits of any
kind, HR's included.
But sometimes just getting solid hits and getting some
confidence back can set a guy up, and pull-side HR's will come
in due time, too. As you say, if he could magically boost his
average over .260 while hitting as many or more HR's, that would
be very welcome.
But yeah, opposite field doesn't always help. We've seen Russell
get all sold out on opposite field, but he just gave up the
pull-side in the process, so he still wasn't "using the whole
field". And in the process he gave up the only thing he was
good at. Bad news if that story plays out for Schwarber.

I've spent more than a half hour on the phone with DirecTV.
They claim technical difficulties that they will try to fix
before game time. It helps if you speak to some whose primary
language is English and does not think MLB is football.

This happened last year almost every time the game was on WGN.
2020 should be better.
