Trent Giambrone has a compact, rather powerful-looking stroke.
He just drilled a double to the corner in left in his first AB
(bottom of 2nd). Then, he stole 3rd, but Kyle Seeger kept tag
on him and when he came off the bag slightly, he was out. A
good learning opportunity in a ST game. All good.

Rizzo just a bomb about a mile over Ichiro's head in RF (he
didn't move)...WAY out!
3-2 Cubs in the 3rd.

The Cubs are very good at identifying and developing "second
tier" position player prospects.

Yeah, Giambrone is a 25th rounder. Bote wasn't much until
elevation swing changes turned things around for him a couple
years ago.
Those kinds of guys don't make Top 100 Prospect Lists, however,
they're good grinders who keep improving and help win games!

Hey Jeff, did you see Tseng whiff Haniger on 3 pitches right
there?
*Pretty awesome 2-seamer with late break,
*a tremendous 12-6 curve and his best pitch,
*a terrific change up, easily whiffed Haniger, who made the
All-Star Team last year.
Too bad Tseng hasn't had many sequences like that in the past
year! Maybe he just found it...
...but not likely.
It does sort of show how good ALL the guys are who are playing
on TV!

Giambrone got schooled by Marco Gonzalez on consecutive change
ups, but hit the ball hard on 2-2 pitch to ground out and drove
in a run.
Almora now has hit the ball HARD twice in 3 ABs and has a double
and a single.
Cubs have 11 hits off Gonzalez in 3.2 innings and now lead 6-2.
Rizzo 3-3.

ben, yep - it just goes to show that all professional
ballplayers can dominate other professional ballplayers within
short samples. What separates stars from scrubs is the
frequency thereof.

Exactly, Jeff. Nice to see Javy with a double (his 2nd hit) and
Cubs' 12th in 3.2.
Too bad Marco Gonzalez isn't still in the Cards' rotation!

My son’s coach was a journeyman who spent parts of 5 seasons in
the MLB. He said he could hit $250k pitches just fine but
couldn’t hit the $10M pitchers.
Big difference when you move up to the bigs.

That's SO true, Chgojhawk! Your son's coach was probably the
best of the best at EVERY level until he got to MLB - the guys
at that level are just ridiculously good!
Part of what's also tricky at the MLB level is projecting the
human components for Team chemistry, too, because so many other
Teams also have GREAT players. It's another reason I'm so glad
we still have Theo (and we have a World Championship)! He's SO
many levels downfield from the very best fans!
Not that our leaders are going to make all the right decisions -
NO way - but he sure gets a lot more right than most other MLB
execs. We are very lucky to still have Theo!
