5 game lead on September 2, and they lose 4 of 6 to the Brewers
to let them stick around.
95.1% chance to win the division outright on September 18, and
now it's a coin flip at best.
They choked.

That's absurd. But not surprising.

In 1969, the Cubs lost to the Mets, not because they choked, but
because the Mets played incredible baseball at the end of the
season. The same situation exists today. If the Cubs do not
win the division, it will be because the Brewers became
incredibly hot at the proper time, not that the Cubs choked.

In ‘69 the Cubs were under .500 after the break and 8-17 in
September - they choked. Doesn’t mean the Mets weren’t great -
the two are not mutually exclusive.

This post is prima facie evidence that the Cubs didn't choke.
They did what they were on pace to do -- the Brewers just played
even better.
Now let's go get that 96th win tomorrow!

Actually Cubs are in good shape. They only need to win one out
of the next two to get into the NL final four. Winning tomorrow
means no need to even play the next one.

A one-game playoff in LA would not be a good position.

Interesting that the West wildcard team will need to travel, yet
will be playing the late game tomorrow. Don't imagine it
matters at all. But they'll have less hours between games, plus
the travel besides.
