Wouldn't it be cheaper to draft a less expensive guy and pay him
a little bit to change his name to Bubba?

I'm with DaveP. I have no insight as to which prospects are
better than the others, I prefer college players over HS players
and I prefer hitters over pitchers.
HS prospects are usually at least four or five years away from
the big leagues, so there's a lot that can go wrong - injuries.
weight gain (a la Earl Cunningham), trouble with breaking
pitches, defensive woes.
Pitchers are far too injury-prone for my tastes. I doubt that
I'd ever draft a pitcher other than a Prior or a Strasburg
before the third round.

I like Keith Law and think he's one of the best at what he
does...given his scouting and other real world experience in the
Blue Jays front office (same front office as Wilken at the time)
combined with his strong statistical background, I feel like he
knows what he's talking about. With Springer, he has mentioned
a "backside collapse" as a warning sign. He was asked to
elaborate on that in his ESPN chat on Thursday:

fredr, what do you like about Orpesa? Mayo has him as the 46th
best prospect. Perfect Game doesn't have him in their top 50.

Just what I have read about him,close to playing with the bib
boys.
The Cubs refusual to bring up any of the 1b in the system to see
what they have.
Wilkins is the wild card.
