Respectfully I would have to disagree Curt. I think the
likelihood of success for Heimlich is significantly reduced
based on this major revelation. Heimlich removed himself from
the OSU rotation for their super regional which hardly receives
media attention. The media and crowds could tear this kid up.
Bottom line is that as a prospect, his future IMHO is far darker
than it was a week ago. This doesn't even take into
consideration the possible lack of acceptance by future
       teammates and opponents.
What he did was very significant. It is not an allegation. The
kid admitted to it. I am also not certain that his juvenile
record was supposed to be confidential. I believe in Oregon
juvenile records are public. No matter the rule relative to
juveniles, he WAS supposed to register as a sex offender and
apparently did not do so at his new address.
Perhaps he will hire a PR agent and do some PSAs about child
molestation. Perhaps he will get a standing ovation at the CWS.
Perhaps he will make amends with the mother of the little girl.
       Perhaps not.
He would be off my draft board. Not necessarily due to the
charge (though it would play a role), but due to my opinion that
he will never have baseball success due to the charge becoming
       public information.

Fair enough Hawk, if it is a scouting evaluation based on his
mental state and ability to handle the increased pressure of his
situation. Any GM would be stupid not to consider the
possibilities and the kid's mental make-up. If otoh it is a
punishment for what he did, I wouldn't agree with that. He did
something heinous and nasty to an innocent little girl, but he
was himself a kid and by all accounts has not relapsed in any
way. It's too bad the kid didn't play football, if so he'd be a
       Dallas Cowboy for sure.

LOL a the Dallas Cowboys comment.
While I would agree that Heimlich was a kid when he started
molesting the little girl (13 yrs. old), he was 15 when he was
caught. It may not seem significant, but I feel that there is a
difference. At 13 a boy is hitting puberty and is going through
changes in his body and chemistry. At 15 they should absolutely
know better and have greater ability to make decisions. Junior
high vs. high school. Huge difference.

I see your point, hawk, and I would be uncomfortable around this
kid, but there has to be some possibility of redemption or he
might as well end it all.

He may not have an opportunity at a major league baseball career
as a consequence of his actions, but he can redeem himself in
       other ways.

No one who has a daughter would justify his actions and for any
parent that would I'd feel sorry for their children.
I'd rather find out that he had killed his neighbor buddy than
to find out he loved up his 6 year old cousin.
Hell it wasn't even that long ago either.
At 15 I was trying to lose my virginity or sneak and smoke some
ganja or something and some would think that was awful but the
thought of molesting some child was never even a thought in my
       mind.
You don't just change after that.
I could maybe forgive a curious 12 year old (depending on how
curious) but by 15 you know all about the birds and bees and
       molesting your little cousins.

As a father of 8 daughters I can say I don't feel that he should
never have a chance to redeem himself and play baseball or be a
lawyer or whatever. We also don't know what happened to him
growing up. It is a fact that most kids who molest were molested
themselves at some point. Would that change your view of him?
What if he was part of a generational cycle of molestation in
his family? As a former member of the clergy in my faith I can't
tell you many of these cycles of generational molesting I saw
from people both in and out of my church. I've also seen it
among distant relatives in my family. Who is to blame? I tend to
blame grown adults who should know better. I tend to give kids
the benefit of the doubt if they show remorse and I don't know
       all of their circumstances.

I agree with Robb. If a team's scouting report indicates that
the kid will have severe problems dealing with the publicity and
public opinion, to the point where it is likely to affect his
performance, they should take that into account. But if they
believe that his character is such that he can deal with it,
then the subject should not be a factor. He committed a crime
when quite young, and has been punished for that crime. If
there is no indication that he has repeated the offense, that
should end it. Studies have indicated that those performing
this crime early in their teens have a low rate of recidivism.
8 daughters? Dang, Robb - BlueJay is a doctor. He may be able
to tell you what is causing it.

Twins take SS Royce Lewis, JSerra Catholic HS (San Juan
Capistrano, Calif.) as the # 1 choice. Dang, I was hoping that
he would fall far enough for the Cubs to take him.

Through 21 picks, none of the following have been chosen.
       [quote author=Reb link=topic=488.msg312922#msg312922
       date=1497257522]
       Callis/Mayo: 27. Cubs
Mayo: Nick Allen, SS, Parker HS (San Diego) - I've had Allen in
this spot pretty much from the get-go and I see no reason to
       change course now.
Callis: Tanner Houck, RHP, Missouri - Chicago needs pitching
much more than hitting and could grab two college arms with its
multiple first-rounders. Coming into the year, the Cubs wouldn't
have expected a shot at Houck, who originally projected as a
       top-10 selection.
       30. Cubs (Compensation pick for Fowler signing with the
       Cardinals)
Mayo: Sam Carlson, RHP, Burnsville (Minn.) - Carlson is one of
those high school arms who could go much higher based on talent,
but could settle down to the bottom of the round as prep
       right-handers often do.
Callis: Drew Rasmussen, RHP, Oregon State - Rasmussen also has
come back nicely this spring, hitting 98 mph after having Tommy
John surgery in March 2016. If Chicago wants a position player,
it could snag California high school shortstop Nick Allen, the
       Draft's top defender.
