On another board (I believe on ArizonaPhil's thread, there was a
discussion about whether the Cubs could get Charlie Blackmon for
Soler.
This front office had not indicated that they would be
interested in a full time center fielder (although who knows
what they might really want, or what they might accept if an
offer came in), But I can't believe that the Cubs could even get
within sniffing distance of Blackmon in return for Soler.

Someone on PSD mentioned that Levine said the Mariners offered
Walker for Baez and it didn't go anywhere.

Sure there's a risk they could disappoint back at AAA but kinda
doubt much of a factor this off-season. They could raise stock
too if return for 2017. Guessing some clubs wonder why
Candelario dramatically better at AAA than AA (aside from BABIP)
and so another good showing at Iowa would look good. Neither
began 2016 at AAA, so don't think looks bad to open 2017 at AAA
rather than majors.
Would be very surprised if both are back for 2017, especially
Candelario. Think a good time to trade him is right now. But, if
right deal doesn't work out, would expect him to look good at
AAA again.

Hard pass on a Jankowski/Almora platoon.
Bring back Dex.

Things are SO much different today than in the past for Cub
fans...and Candelario is part of the proof.
In past (pre-Theo) decades, we would have been salivating over
Candelario - switch-hitting, plate-disciplined, corner infielder
with serious power potential - NO way he'd have been in our
trade discussions as we were most always in Buildican mode (and
certainly needed to be).
IF we trade Candelario this offseason, some other team's fans
can salivate over his VERY considerable upside.
I'm confident Theo/Jed/Jason will effectively evaluate when the
right time is to move him, but they will almost certainly move
him...he's SO blocked with today's roster reality...it's a
beautiful thing!

Bowden reported the Cubs have talked to Rays about their
starting pitching including Archer. According to Bowden the Cubs
would package Soler, Happ and pitching for Archer. I find it
hard to believe that would be enough.

I saw that Bowden report too. I agree that there's no way
that's enough...if the Rays would trade Archer for a deal
headlined by Happ and Soler, that deal would already be done. I
can't imagine the Rays trading Archer to the Cubs without
getting Baez.

Ben, in this case I don't agree, because I don't perceive
Candelario as having serious power potential. He's been a 10-13
HR guy, maxed at 13 with help of PCL inflation. I haven't
gotten the sense that the scouts see him with major unfulfilled
power. My impression is he's more like kinda what he is: a
teens HR guy. I think if there are teams who really do believe
he's got serious power and is going to be a 25-HR guy, his trade
value might be higher than I appreciate.
I think he might be something like Vogelbach last year. Going
in, I thought he was a DH guy who needs to hit HR, but had been
a 15-HR guy and that wasn't enough. But last year, his HR's
jumped and so did his value, enough to snag Montgomery.
I think likewise if Candelario comes back, and posts serious
Iowa numbers from the start and is on pace to hit 20+ HR, then
his value will jump like Vogelbach's did. But right now, I
think there may be too much question about whether he's really
got enough power/defense to become a desirable starter.
