Baez is close to a star already, with his bat producing the way
it has been. If it improves as I believe it will, he will be a
superstar.
And I don't see the great need of adding a starting pitcher to
the 2017 roster. We have no shortage in that area now, and I
believe are likely to add a free agent or two over the winter.
I agree that we will not get a star pitcher in return for Soler
at this point. But I agree with Corey that his trade value is
likely to be substantially higher than that of Vogelbach, and
should bring back someone better than Montgomery in return if
traded.

Sorry for posting this here. Wife and I are going to Chicago in
a couple of weeks, want to stay downtown (loop, maybe?). Any
suggestions would be much appreciated. Suggestions for places to
eat and or drink would be helpful as well. Thanks much and what
a year!! My email is chifan20@yahoo.com Thanks!!

Obviously, not what I said at all.
Guarantee you that Cubs will be discussing Baez with other
clubs. They will ask and Cubs will listen and assess. That's
what open-minded folks do. As I said in previous post, I doubt
will happen and not clear whether it would be a good idea or not
regarding an Archer deal. A tough call.

I haven't been there in years but you might want to give Harry
Caray's restaurant a try.

It might be a tough call for you. It would be very unlikely it
would be at all difficult for the Theocracy.

Just for reference Jeff Sullivan estimated the surplus value in
Archer's contract at $170 million.

If he rated it that high at the end of this season, it would be
reasonable to assume Baez would have an even higher estimated
value.

Archer has 5 more years of control for $35 million. Archer with
fWAR has been worth 3, 5, 3 WAR the last 3 seasons. If Baez
reaches his potential he is going to make much more than that in
arbitration. I like Baez a lot. Archer is a very good pitcher,
signed to a super team friendly deal. I'm not sure I'd trade
Baez for him, but the Cubs don't have the minor league talent to
get him.

Yeah, Baez is amazing, but I guarantee you Theo & Co. would
trade him straight up for Archer so fast it would make your head
spin. Thinking otherwise is the old fallacy of overvaluing your
own players to the extreme.

The beauty of Baez for next year is that if/when he goes into a
funk at the plate we can sit him down for a day or two and slow
him down. In the WS Javy was coming off a monster playoffs and
was jacked to carry that into the WS. I believe he was so fired
up that he was far too aggressive.
Not withstanding the above, Baez has been a wonder with the
glove and will still bring value to the team simply by his play
in the field.
