I'm not familiar with him. How grizzled is he? Is he a
quality, quality guy?

Decent amount of grizzle. Can't speak to his qualityness.

Is Hendry back with the Cubs

By the way, the "Quality, quality guy" concept of Hendry was
often criticized, for good reason. And yet it isn't far from
Epstein's statements about getting guys with good character.
What neither of them spelled out, but has been obvious in
practice, is that it helps if the quality, quality guys and guys
with good character are also very good ball players.

Not sure I see the appeal of De Aza. Certainly well
below-average in CF at this point, and his offense has always
been mediocre.

Heh heh, well said, Dave.
I think that character is especially relevant for draft, and
impacts "good ball player". Character can't make a good player
without the talent, obviously. But smart, hard-working,
coachable guys are more likely to maximize talent and become
good ball players. Mark Pawalek, Andy Sisco, Vitters, I'm not
sure some of those guys had the smarts or self-discipline to do
the most with the talent they were born with. Current regime
seems to value those aspects much more than Fleita did.

Don't really know, but the discussion is relative to Szczur.
Not sure I necessarily see a roster spot. With only 5 bench
spots, do I want two of them to be center fielders, Almora plus
Szczur-or-replacement? Two guys who both play CF and
defensive-switch, but neither of whom hits much? Maybe, as in
my Coghlan-Almora-Szczur-LaStella-Montero suggestion.

Craig, I'm very disappointed in you. This was a perfect
opportunity to make reference to the lure of "wine, women, and
song" and you missed it. Are you not feeling well?

Craig knows that song is totally over rated.
