I'm sure the Seahawks would gladly drop 4 spots down to 29 and
rape us for our 3rd round pick in the bargain.
Don't forget, the Seahawks are Tim Ruskell's former team so if
he's anything like Angelo (which he is, more than any of us want
to admit), I'm sure he would be happy to give them a sweetheart
deal just like Angelo did with the Bucs for Gaines Adams.

Yapper:
Suppose the Bears DO make a deal with the Seahawks to move up 4
spots to get the OL they want. Then in the second round they
get their DT. What in the third round would the Bears be
passing up that's so special that it would be considered "rape"?

Why would moving up 4 slots cause us our 3rd? Seems steep to me.

It is steep. Which is why I used the term "rape" and which is
why I could see Angelo doing it.

PFT latest Mock Draft has all the top tier OL gone by our pick,
plus Liuget, and has us taking Marvin Austin, DT from UNC.
Austin's an interesting cat. 6'3 310-ish with consensus top 15
talent, he has the potential to give us impact we haven't had in
the middle since pre-injury Tommie Harris. However, he is
coming off a year of inactivity caused by some very boneheaded
decisions he made at UNC. If Marinelli likes the kid's skills I
could see him being our pick if the OL situation doesn't go in
our favor (and then hope we can still get an OL starter in the
2nd round and maybe hedge that bet with a 3rd round OL pick as
well).
You always have to take the off-field stuff very seriously but
Austin has conducted himself extremely well (and looked good on
the field) in the offseason so at the bottom of the 1st that may
not be too big a risk to take given his potential impact if he's
got his sh*t together. If the coaches think Julius Peppers can
take another UNC alum under his wing and help him grow up, who
knows?
A thick, well-proportioned defensive lineman who possesses a
strong-looking base and good girth through his lower half.
Exhibits natural flexibility when asked to fire off the football
and possesses an above-average first step for his size. Has the
ability to really generate a jolt on contact and has the type of
lower body strength to consistently hold the point and anchor
inside. However, doesn't do a good job extending his arms into
blocks and gaining inside leverage with his hands. Allows his
pad level to rise when trying to fend his way off blocks — in
both the run and pass game — and find the football, and will
expose his chest, allowing opposing linemen to get into his
frame and seal him from the play. However, displays impressive
range when asked to make plays away from his frame and has the
type of God-given power to simply fight his way off blocks and
chase. Exhibits a pretty good motor when he is fresh, but isn't
real clean using his hands as a stack and shed guy, and he lacks
ideal instincts when asked to quickly locate the football.
Possesses an impressive combination of power, coordination and
explosion for such a big guy and has the ability to be sudden on
contact and violent when asked to slip blocks vs. the pass.
Displays a good first step, can suddenly change directions and
at times uses his hands well to keep clean before surging up the
field. However, isn't the most aware of defenders getting off
the football on time and doesn't do a good job getting his hands
up initially on contact. Too often waits until he is engaged to
start to work himself free and relies more so on his lower body
strength and lateral quickness to disengage than actually trying
to control blocks with his hands.
Is an immature kid who is at the center of the North
Carolina/agent scandal and really drew a lot of negative
attention from outsiders/scouts during his time on Twitter.
Impression: There is no denying that the overall talent and
skill set is there for him to be as good as he wants to be in
the NFL. However, I worry about his passion, willingness to
become better and overall maturity level going forward. There is
no way I would spend a first-round pick on the guy at this stage
and I don't think he will ever become the player many suspect.
But, his natural God-given ability will keep him in the league
and give him plenty of second chances.

Well I personally feel the Bears will fill in some of the holes
like another OLineman and WR via free agency. A third round
OLineman may not make an immediate impact for the team this
year. Now they may need to draft another LB or maybe a RB if
Taylor isn't coming back IF they still have their 3rd rounder
personally.

I would love to see us fill some of those holes with FA... but
there can be no FA activity till the lockout is resolved, so I
think we're almost forced to spend at least one high draft pick
each on OL and DT just to be safe. This year in particular I'm
not sure we can count on FA for much of anything.
As for the RB, don't forget we effectively paid that draft pick
forward last year when we gave up this year's 7th rounder for
Unga (who was promptly redshirted via the IR). Even if Taylor
departs, to spend another pick in this draft for a RB when we
don't even know what Unga can do would be foolish in the
extreme.
