Another report on Carimi:
A long, well put together offensive tackle prospect who has some
real nasty to his game and possesses good overall strength for
the position. However, isn't the most flexible of linemen when
asked to sit into his stance. Struggles to consistently keep his
base down and footwork compact on his kick-slide and can be
bullied at the point at times because of his overextended
footwork. Now, is a very patient puncher and does a nice job
delivering a compact, strong jolt into contact. But too often
explosive defensive ends are able to reach the corner on his
kick-slide, forcing him to quickly open up his hips and lunge
into his target in an effort to push them past the play.
Displays the ability to anchor with consistency against the bull
rush and exhibits good power in his upper body once he gets his
hands on you. Does a nice job moving his feet through contact
and sticking to blocks and is much more comfortable when
engaged.
Exhibits a good first step off the snap in the run game and is
able to keep his pad level down much more consistently, creating
initial movement as an in-line guy. Gets his big paws up quickly
into contact, exhibits good hand location, creates a jarring
punch and is heavy handed through the play. Likes to finish runs
and plays with a mean streak. Looks comfortable when asked to
seal defenders away from the play. Also, was pretty impressive
in the open field for a guy his size, getting out to the second
level with ease, reaching a target and sealing them from the
play.
Impression: Isn't a guy who I would trust on the left side at
this stage in the NFL, but he can win for you in the run game
and looks more like a very solid right tackle prospect to me.
There are tackles in this draft that may be more athletic than
Carimi, but this kid has outstanding intangibles and will be a
very good pro. He's a good, but not great athlete and
understands the game. He has great size to go along with very
good strength and power. Plays with good bend and he can move
his feet. Plays from both a 2-point and 3-point stance and shows
good initial quickness. Comes off the ball with good pad level
and can stay low. He is a very good run blocker who consistently
looks to finish. He shows explosiveness and power on contact and
if given the opportunity, will drive his opponent into the
ground. In pass pro he sets quickly and has good mirror skills.
Shows a strong punch and does a good job keeping his hands
inside. Plays with bend and can anchor. There have been a few
times where I have seen him get beat to the outside with speed,
but he has the quickness to set wide and stop the speed rush.
Overall, he has the tools to be a winning left tackle in the
league. Depending on the team that drafts him, Carimi could
start out at right tackle. Remember, people thought Rodger
Saffold couldn't play left tackle and he had an outstanding
rookie year.

Since we have had such crap at RT and LT, it doesnt really
matter where he plays. He did play 4 years at LT. If he needs
a year at RT before he switches, fine. If he spends 10 years at
RT, that is good too. I really like that he has a nasty streak.
Something that has been missing. Who was the LT that we got
who was a RT before, from the Cheifs?

I'd love for someone to step in at LT and play as well as Tait,
be it Carimi, Williams or Webb.
Anyone else question Denver spending the #2 on a LB?

Tait, thats the guy. Thanks Yapper. If Carimi could be the
next John Tait I would be pretty darned happy.

I think Carimi could be better than Tait. He's meaner, and
quite a bit bigger. And, assuming we hang on to Tice, he will
get much better coaching than Tait ever did (as a Bear, anyway).
