Also, all the talk about Chris Williams "high intelligence" is a
load of bull. He looked just as clueless and had just as many
mental f-uckups as anyone else on that sorry unit last year.
Bottom line, the guy is a 4th-round player in a 1st-rounder's
body. Angelo got snookered big-time on him and now the only
thing left to see is if there's anything about the guy that can
be salvaged or if we just need to cut him and move on.

Hmmm... two articles in the Trib this week hyping J'Marcus
       Webb.
If I were putting 2 and 2 together I would conclude that Bears
fans are being prepped to see Webb as our starting LT in 2011.
The Bears will not be trading up to get Costanzo or Carimi, but
will wait to see who falls to 29 and if there's no OL they like
       there, they'll go DT.
That leaves LG and RT to be filled... one of which would happen
with our 2nd round pick and the other which would happen via FA
unless they were ready to entrust Herman Johnson with one of
       those positions.

Big Herman is truely an X factor. He is an unknown. I dont know
what to expect out of him. He could end up being a stud and he
could end up being a bust.

I was disappointed that Big Herman didn't at least make it onto
the field last year. I hope it was more that they didn't want
to make a roster move than that he truly is that far away from
       being a viable NFL player.
IMO, best case scenario in 2011 he becomes a starter, worst case
he still sees the field on short yardage and goal-line
situations. Guys like Edwin Williams, Asiata and Lance Louis
showed next to nothing in their opportunities last year so let's
give Herman his shot and see what happens.
In other news PFT's latest mock draft is out and they have us
taking Marvin Austin with OT Nate Solder still on the board.
That would certainly raise some eyebrows but if the Bears have
decided on Webb as our LT that may be how it goes down.

Thats the way I see it. I cant visualize any way the Bears trade
up. Now were we to have excess picks then maybe I could see the
Bears gambling, but with only 6 picks and low round ones I dont
see any tradeup. I fully expect the Bears to take a DT at 29.

It’s no secret that Chicago is high on Austin to replace Tommie
       Harris.
I just hope this kid isnt a head case just like Tommie Harris.

Assuming the Bears are planning on Webb at LT, if Derek Sherrod
is available at 29 it presents a bit of a problem in that
Sherrod is really not terribly suited to RT and probably can't
play OG at all. If the OL options at 29 were Danny Watkins and
Sherrod, I think Watkins gets the inside track as he could step
in at either OG position or play RT, right away.
The opposing argument being of course that if Sherrod is our
best LT from Day One then we don't really lose anything by
putting him there and keeping Webb on the right side.
To me this is literally a two-player draft for the Bears. We
MUST get a starting O-Lineman who is considerably better than
any of the 5 on the field last year, and we MUST get an impact
DT. Literally every other position can wait another year, if
need be. But we HAVE to get those two quality trench players now
after ignoring those positions for too long. Whether that means
trading up, down or sideways doesn't matter to me as long as we
get those players in the final outcome.

He is a head case and that's why he's falling to the bottom of
the first round (or farther, depending on the mock you read),
despite a skill set some have rated comparable to Nick Fairley.
The multimillion dollar question is whether Marinelli and
Peppers can snap him out of it. If they can maximize his
potential then we have something but if it's another Tank
Johnson deal then this team is dead in the water for the next
       few years.
That being said... reportedly the Bears coaches have put in an
inordinate amount of time checking Austin out. If all the top
OTs (including Sherrod) and Watkins are gone by 29 I think you
can take it to the bank he'll be our pick. And I'll be OK with
that (though crossing my fingers the whole way). OTOH if we
take Austin with Watkins and Sherrod still on the board, that's
a much riskier move... and ill-advised, IMO. Watkins and
Sherrod are both consensus "clean", safe picks (Watkins' age
notwithstanding), whereas Austin is anything but.

20s. Angelo may just be too smug and stupid to resist.

I think if Watkins and Austin are both available I take Watkins.
       Fills a need, less risky.
