Honestly I thought we'd see some trades being made by now.
The lockout has been lifted... not sure what the holdup is.

I'm wondering how and under what rules do you sign anyone with
no contract rules in place.

There will be no activity because the league is continuing the
lockout (they will allow players into the building but not allow
them to work out) until the judge rules on their request to stay
the ruling. They are also appealing. We should here something
in the next few days.

So it doesn't look like any trades are going to happen before
the draft. Which means a lot of teams may be forced to address
needs through the draft that they otherwise would have addressed
in trades. In other words, more reaching and in some cases, a
shift away from value and toward need.
I've seen more than a few people predicting there would be a lot
more "WTF" picks in this year's draft than in years past and I'm
inclined to believe that.

Intriguing prospect. Check out the article... dude even LOOKS
like Tommie Harris. He has Top-15 talent but after the way he
boned up his college career no team is going to take a chance on
him that high. His true value when you consider risk/reward is
an upper 2nd-round pick... which means we'd either have to
reach for him at 31 or trade down a few spots and hope he lasts.
No way he drops to the bottom of the 2nd.
The other thing of course is that he's from the same college as
Julius Peppers so through Peppers' old UNC connections the Bears
may have some inside info as well.

Seriously???? Chris Williams at Center? Heaven help us. Just
admit the mistake and move on:
As for center, the Bears have confidence Edwin Williams can do
the job if Kreutz, an unrestricted free agent, doesn’t return,
which remains a possibility. There even have been discussions
about moving Chris Williams to center, which would be a stunning
admission for a team that drafted Williams 14th overall in 2008
to be the left tackle of the future.
On the other hand, the 6-6, 315-pound Williams would provide the
added bulk Tice is looking for. Because his strength is his
intelligence, he could make the line calls required of a center.
The lack of aggressiveness he has displayed at guard and tackle
would be less of a concern at center, where he would be required
to make fewer one-on-one blocks.

Thats the guy Yapper. If there is nobody there at 29 that the
Bears like on the OLine I look for the Bears to think they are
getting top 15 talent at 29.

Marvin Austin has been doing and saying all the right things
leading up to the draft. Is it for real... that's the question.
Seems like a guy Marinelli could potentially get his hands on
and turn into something special (with additional mentoring by
Peppers)... but OTOH if the kid is inherently an underachiever
with questionable judgment then no amount of coaching-up is
gonna make him anything more than a 5-6 year role player at
best. And those guys you can get in the 4th round.
Chris Williams at C is a bad idea. 6'6 is too tall for a Center
and especially for a guy like Williams who has real challenges
playing low and with leverage. Cutler would be clanging balls
off the back of his helmet every game.
