So the draft starts thursday and this is dead. I wish the draft
was a little more firm. I hate picking so low with all the
variables. You know someone is going to do some dumb ass move
that skews everything. I just hope we are not that dumbass. Oh
and I hope we get a bonafide starter in the first round.

I think the biggest reason the pre-draft this year is so blah is
because nobody knows when (if at all) that we're going to get to
see the kids that get drafted, actually out on the field.
Specific to the Bears, I think it's the general fear/dread that
the Angelo/Ruskell combo is going to royally bone this one up
and set our roster back another 2-3 years when we desperately
need to be improving it now.
That all being said, it's not gonna stop me and my brother
(Vikings fan) from getting together, ordering a pizza, drinking
a s**tload of beer and seeing how our respective teams make out.

Well the court today ruled in the Players favor. The lock out
is over unless the NFL gets a judge to halt the order while they
       appeal.
Our court system is a mess. The ruling is that because they
aren't a union they can't be locked out. Yet everyone knows
       they are still a union.
Decertification is a sham and everybody knows it. We would of
been better off if the players lost becuase then they would
finally agree to negotiate. Now goodbye draft, goodbye salary
cap, goodbye football as we know it...

This could make it virtually impossible for teams to close any
       deals involving 2012 draft picks.
If there is in fact the possibility that the draft will go away
after this year, no GM in his right mind will sign-off on a deal
       that includes deferred picks.

No GM was going to trade for future draft picks before this
ruling. Not unless they got a premium for it. Odds are shit
will get worked out and there will be a draft but who is going
       to chance it?

Right, that way we get back to the Halas way of player salaries.
I do believe player salaries are way way too high and something
needs to control that. But with management setting all the rules
and setting salaries the way it suits them is not the answer.

I worked in a non-union enviropnment at one time. Every year at
Christmas time they would anounce a $.10/hr raise. Yeah right!

Take it to the politics thread. Don't get me started on unions

We are never going back to players making peanuts and you know
it. However currently the players are making way to much and if
they win you will end up with the Mannings and Bradys making all
of the money and the rest of the players fighting for what is
left. The players, the owners and the NFL for us fans is better
off with a fair deal being negotiated between the owners and the
players union. They are a union and it is a sham that they
       decertified. Everybody knows it.
The union plan is to win in court pretending like they aren't a
union. Then reach an agreement with the NFL and become a union
       again.
Sadly that will likely mean the end of the NFL as we know it.
It will become like baseball and I will quit watching.

Pekin, everybody has their own opinions. You have yours and I
have mine. I cant see the harm you see. The average playing life
of a player in the NFL is 5 years. A player has 5 years to make
it financially. Admittedly players waste it on bad investments
and extravagent living, but I cant see the owners side in this.
Scam or not I cant see lining the owners pockets. They dont PLAY
the games. They dont put their bodies on the line on Sundays.
OTOH, I do see the ills of the current system. Changes need to
be made. I dont like the 18 game season crap. More exposure to
injuries for the players. Modifying the current CBA seems the
best idea to me, not the radical stuff the owners want.
