In a radio interview with Nathan Sweeney, RHP, Cherry Creek HS,
the Cubs 33rd pick, he says that the Cubs offer was one hundred
thousand, and he is considering it. Listening to the rest of
the interview, I will be surprised if he doesn't take it. He
says that, having dyslexia, he is not a "school person".
Very little in the way of a scouting report available.
       33. Nathan Sweeney, RHP, HS (CO): Another great, projectable
frame at 6'4", 185 lbs., Sweeney throws in the high 80s,
       touching as high as 92.

With dyslexia I hope the offer wasn't really 00000.01

Hatch complete game shutout. 112 pitches.
Hatch is the second pitcher in 39 years to throw a complete game
shutout in the CWS. It should be noted that since they moved out
of Rosenblatt that offense is much harder to come by. TD
Ameritrade was built for the old bats.

Very nice. Two excellent world-series games after getting
drafted, and a really excellent game prior. The guy is in a
groove. I wonder if he'd had all three of these games prior to
the draft, if he'd have gone off the board before our turn?
       Anyway, sounds encouraging.

Mekkes was discussed on the Fangraphs podcast. It sounds like he
was a 90-92 fastball, but his delivery is odd. He's 6-7 and does
a jump delivery similar to Carter Capps so that increases his
effective velocity. He also has some sort of pause in the
delivery to further throw off hitters timing. I might have to
google him to see if I can find a video.

I think Mekkes might not be likely to sign:

Dakota Mekkes needed a mentor, and he had the perfect one close
       by in Cam Vieaux.
Two years of eligibility at Michigan State left. A major-league
organization that wants to pry him away from college. A
       life-altering decision ahead.
Vieaux went through it a year ago, ended up returning to the
Spartans this season and got drafted again, significantly
higher. He now appears headed to the pros.
       Mekkes? That’s to be determined.
“Cam was literally in the same exact situation as I am right
now,” said Mekkes, a redshirt sophomore pitcher from Jenison who
was a 10th-round selection of the Chicago Cubs on Friday. “I got
to ask him about the whole draft process, what to expect and
what happens when you do get drafted. Having him around was
pretty big, because he knows what’s going on.”
