Marc Huberman was a successful college LH reliever who faced top
competition, but perhaps some makeup questions as he was
involved in a sex tape video scandal at USC.
If the sex tape video involved in Epstein in a negligee, he
might get a good signing bonus.

Another possible overslot candidate is 24th rounder Rivera, a
JUCO guy, headed to South Alabama. BA had him at #270 overall.

34 th rounder Davis Daniel is Auburn commit and ranked #109 by
BA--that's high 4th round ($550,000 slot).
Probably unsignable.

Very nice. if he's shutting down college playoff teams, that's
really encouraging.
From the Miller piece, a reminder of how much of the financial
agreement is already discussed and agreed in advance before a
team is willing to spend a pick:
"He and his advisers were group chatting, keeping him updated on
interested teams and scouts that were checking in on him. He got
word that a deal with the Cubs in the fourth round was in the
works, but as that pick grew near, he hadn’t heard anything from
the team."
From the Duke kid: "Clark had a combined 4.31 earned-run
average and 120 strikeouts in 121 innings over the course of his
college career."
Good reminder. I tend to think of a college guy as having "had
three years", and being pretty well defined in terms of what he
is or isn't. But here's a guy who's pitched 121 innings in his
whole college career. There may be a LOT of things that are
anything but well defined through only 121 innings. Lots of
adjustments and changes might occur in the ensuing 800 innings.
Hopefully in his case for the better, although I admit the
frequency of wild guys become non-wild is not real high.

Seems like Miller and Clark would be the only 2 guys the Cubs
drafted that could be the find a TORP pitcher. Miller needs his
stuff to improve and Clark needs a lot of work to not end up in
the bullpen. If they were really serious about finding a TORP it
would seem to me you would be looking for more than 2 chances.
Cubs Den brought up a good point that the Cubs might be looking
to accumulate more 4/5 starters to save the team money so that a
TORP can be bought. Somebody like Hatch would fit that, as well
as the Cubs picking a lot of ground ball guys.
They did add a bunch of possible high leverage relievers and if
this draft only produces 1-2 relievers it wouldn't be a bad
outcome for not having a first or second round pick.
The Cubs did seem to take more quetionable character guys this
year. It will be interesting to see if that sticks or if the
Cubs just did it to get better talents at a cheaper price or
maybe they think they have enough high character guys that they
can control a few bad apples.
