Grizz, maybe I'm wrong but hasn't the economy of the state in
Florida pretty much tanked big-time under the fine leadership of
our current President?
If the locals are struggling to pay their bills it's going to be
pretty hard for pro sports franchises to squeeze a lot of
shekels out of them, I'm thinking. Especially in Florida where
there are so many other ways you can spend sunny Sunday
afternoons for free.
Having fans of opposing teams come to Tampa may be that
franchise's only shot at having a reasonably filled stadium from
one Sunday to the next.

To be fair, the economy in Florida started tanking well before
the current President. We began feeling the pinch here when gas
started skyrocketing in 2008. Curiously, gas prices dropped
right before the election, but have been climbing back ever
since, almost back now to summer of '08 levels. Combine energy
costs, the tanking of real estate, the rise in inflation, the
tourism-dependent industries and it's a perfect storm for a
$hitty economy here.

Interesting:
HTML http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/04/22/nfl-could-cancel-weeks-2-and-4-without-losing-any-divisional-games/
For what it's worth, cancelling Weeks 2 and 4 for the Bears
would mean not playing the Saints on the road (a probable loss)
and not facing Carolina in Chicago (a likely win).

I hear the owners have worked things out up to the Superbowl
about the lockout.

Florida tanked big time on real estate and I lost my job in
2009. Maybe the season tickets were the thread that was keeping
my job alive, I don't know, lol... True, Florida's economy
tanked but I think if you kept tickets at a more reasonable
level you would sell more seats. I hadn't seen a $24/seat
ticket price ever, but it probably crept up $5/seat each year on
average. That last year, I just wonder who the brainiac was in
the Buc's front office that said let's jack the prices up 30% -
nice.
Now I will say that my old section is sold out, someone came and
bought those seats so good for them. But, many other seats have
never been sold out now and the Bucs didn't have one sell out
last year, so there you go. Now don't get me started about
having to buy preseason games...

Kinda surprising isn't it? You and the Mrs. been to Gatlinburg?
Lotsa fun on the cheap. Get a cabin. Just read where Brandon
Marshall was stabbed in the stomach last night by the mrs. If
the lockout keeps going, aren't going to be any players left.
All dead or in jail. Preds won in Cali. Go figure. For the
hockey fans, that's a nice building here to watch the games.
Very family, cheap to park, easy in and out of the city. Beer
half price thru the first period. Did I mention Tn has no state
tax?

I don't have any special love for the NFL owners but I have to
be strongly agin' the NFLPA. If they succeed in their crazy
efforts there would be no cap limit or draft or any other
system to assure balance in the league.
Their position shows no interest in the fans or the best
scenario for the future of the NFL. Hard to love those guys.

If the nfl turns into a richest-man-wins league, I won't watch.
