Wow Peke, you really don't see the financial end of the lock out
do you? Jerry jones just built a BILLION dollar stadium. All
those luxury boxes are not part of the collective bargaining
agreement (read profits 100% to owners) and now he is one of the
prime movers to cancel the agreement which run thru this year to
get the players to assume more of his payments. Never inquired
as to how much money he actually put up (risked), but just put
it on the players did ya. The players risk is injury, not
getting paid and maybe an early death due to the game. Still you
have to carry the water for the opwners.

I would imagine if the judges determine the nfl has to operate
as individual companies then the NFL can't require the players
to enter the draft can they? I would expect it would be a free
for all when they get out of college, shoot they could do just
like the nba and mlb and hire guys right out of highschool.
The potential impact could also affect MLB, NBA, MLS etc.

Can you see some 18-year old signing with an NFL team right out
of high school? Yikes.
There are very very few 18-year olds who are physically
developed enough to not be completely destroyed playing against
grown men in their mid- to late 20s who have years of college
and pro strength training behind them... but in select cases
(kickers, punters, maybe the occasional RB or a very rare WR or
QB), I could see it happening.

I guess also since our practice squads are so small and the
rosters as well it isn't like MLB where you sign the guy and put
him on a farm team for a few years.
Then again if they pull up all the rules who says how large the
rosters can be?
I guess they will still have to have some guidelines but I kind
think of it if the players win it will be like any other
industry where they make you an offer and you take it.

A football franchise would probably cost you an average of a
billion dollars today. What should you get for your investment?
At a nominal 8% that would be 80 million dollars per year. Do
you think they make that much?
A top player might make 100 million dollars for 10 years. He
has had his schooling paid for him and, basically, made no
investment except his playing the game of football. Now, he
expects to check the owner's corporate records and satisfy
himself that he is getting way, way more than he is ethically
entitled to.
Only in America.

I wonder if Otto would be happy if in his line of work a new kid
with no experience could come in on day one and make 10 times
what Otto makes and have it guaranteed for 4-5 years even if he
turns out to be a total failure.

Thats the point that sticks in my crawl and I am sure the
players too. Oh and there will be a draft. The owners want it. I
just believe the millions of guaranteed money will come to a
screeching halt, which it should.
