Without a draft teams could sign anybody for any amount. High
profile players and positions will get the big bucks (and agents
big commissions) and the rank and file players will get the
minimum.

As long as there is a salary cap the draft is not necessary.

If they get their way it will be like baseball with no salary
cap and the richest teams buying titles.

If Brees and Brady and the rest in that lawsuit win the draft is
gone. Each NFL team would have to operate as a seperate
business. That is what they are suing for and their lawyer has
said as much.
If you want all games played this year but the NFL be ruined
forever root for the players. If you want the NFL to continue
to operate as it has then root for the owners.
Packrat if they win there is no salary cap or floor or draft.
It is open season.
Of course the players don't want to win that lawsuit is is just
there as leverage. However if they win they win. Game over the
NFL is ruined forever and I quit watching and so will most of
you eventually. Who wants to see the same 4 or 5 teams in the
Superbowl year after year after year.

Its a lockout. The players would have played under the current
collective bargining agreement, but jerry jones wants you to pay
for his stadium.

I think the first draft was in 1934...I could be off by a year
or two either way. NFL started in 1921.

Duh Raiduhs had the highest salary last season.
Green Bay was near the bottom.
The NEW YORK YANKEES should win the World Series every year if
its only about money.
Most of the time its actually about hiring a good scouting
staff, coaching, and front office.

You can't predict what will happen in a 7 game series but the
Yankees put themselves in a position to win every year by
outspending the rest of the league.

Otto, Jerry Jones would love for the union to win becuase then
he gets his way. He can spend as much as he wants to get all of
the best players and the Packers would no be able to compete
with him. No more salary cap to tie his hands.
If the Cowboys are in the Superbowl every 3 or 4 years he can
fill that stadium and even get the NFL to allow him to host
another one even though he fucked it up so bad this last time.
If the union wins we all lose football as we know it. What we
need to happen is for both sides to get together and actually
negotiate a deal that is good for everyone. The players had a
deal that was way to one sided for them this last time. It was
so good for the players many players who were in on the
negotiations know how good a deal they got and have been on
record stating so.
The players need to give some back to the owners. If BOTH sides
are reasonable bothe sides will win and so will the fans. I
only went to the owners side when they offered a decent deal to
the players (not the best deal the players could get) and the
players stopped negotiating and sued. The judge even gave them
another shot at negotiating and they wouldn't do it. It has
become a pissing match and if the judges rule in the owners
favor this next time the players are going to end up with a
similar deal to what they could have gotten if they hadn't
walked away from negotiating and sued.

The players don't need to give anything back to the owners. Its
the owners who want to socialize risk and privatized the profits
of running a 9.2BILLION dollar business.

If you are talking about the stadiums I agree. The public
should not have to pay for it in taxes. Cities and businesses
do benefit from the people coming to the games but not enough to
pay millions for stadiums.
The fact is the players had a sweetheart deal they got a huge
percentage of the profits with none of the risks. I know you
are a communist so won't understand this but if a person puts up
100's of millions of dollars to run a business they deserve to
make profits from that investment. They should not be
guaranteed but they should also not be so hamstrung by a labor
agreement that they can't operate their business in a way to
become profitbale ifthings go south.
