Yeah, I think the Vikes just assumed that Locker was going to be
there for them. And when he was gone they wanted to trade down
and still pick up Ponder. Way to high they picked him.

The Vikings must have real serious doubts about their ability to
attract a veteran QB (e.g., McNabb, Kolb, Carson Palmer, etc.)
in FA and/or execute a trade for same.
If they had any confidence in that route at all, they would have
passed on the QB position in the first round, taken Fairley (or
possibly Amakamura) and gone from there. Maybe they like their
odds better with having Ponder on the roster now in the event
the lockout is re-instated and they have to wait weeks or months
       to pursue trades/FA.
Definitely some unconventional (or irrational, depending on your
point of view) thinking behind that Ponder pick to be sure.

Was it Kiper or Gruden yesterday that was saying without being
able to trade FA's if you have a need, you draft for it and dont
assume you can do it in FA. I guess, but dont reach that bad...

That Ponder pick so reminded me of what the Bears did the year
we took Cade McNown. It was even at the #12 spot IIRC.
The difference of course being that unlike the Vikings, we put
ourselves into the panic position by trading down in the first
place and letting the Vikings take Culpepper right out from
       under us.

In the past when it came to unmitigated disasters the Chicago
Bears had no peer. And yes, I am including the Lions. When Mikey
was running the show it simply was a chamber of horrors. Here's
hoping those days are long gone.

Biscotti still mouthing off about the screw up in the trade
between the Ravens and the Bears. Guess the payback for screwing
the Vikings a few years ago is a bizzatch, no ?

It's too early to tell about the pick at safety. If Angelo is
right on that one, he looks like a genius. I thought the first
       two picks were solid.
The picks I have a problem with our the QBs in the last two
years. Everyone talks about getting a developmental QB in the
pipeline, but if Cutler is our 27 year old bell cow, he should
play well into his 30's. To me, it makes more sense to draft a
developmental QB when your starter is in his early to mid 30's,
kind of what the Pack did with Favre/Rogers and what the
Patriots just did with Brady and the guy they just drafted. I
think drafting a QB now is a wasted pick...
