I'd like to suggest that we open up UP roles to pitchers again.
Within the context of our present scoring system, which still
skews towards pitching, restricting the number of starters that
any team can have active to a maximum of 6 has created an
awkward imbalance.

I'd also like to propose that owners be allowed to trade draft
picks earlier than July 1. I understand the idea of keeping
owners from throwing in the towel too early on a season, but the
flip side is that draft picks make for great balancing pieces,
and there were trades that went unconsummated early in the year
for me because we couldn't include picks.
You may need to explain more. You're saying that our
present system still skews toward pitching, so let's make it
worse?
Frankly, when I checked teams at the end of the season, we had
an excellent balance of pitching to hitting. I'm not prone to
tinker again.
Yes, we said we could discuss any of these ideas people
wished. Can you specify?
I think we could move it up, but I'd hate to see it move
closer than June 1. I thought this deadline worked amazingly
well to prevent crazy trades last season. And, like you, it
hurt me, too, but MLB deals with rules like this all the time.

It creates a bizarre roster crunch when choosing what players to
keep and how to work the wire: shall I keep/pick up this 350
point OF or this 500 point SP? The roster mechanisms disguise
the underlying imbalance, which Dave references in the linked
posts about hitter K penalty, etc.

That would be a move in the right direction, for sure, and at
the very least creates some more space between when picks can be
traded and when the deadline actually hits.

My study last offseason showed a damn good balance when
strikeouts were reduced to .5 from 1. I plan to look at this
again after the season ends to make another comparison. I expect
the results to be similar.
Both JR and Dave talk about this in the thread I linked. I think
that if we were to make some sort of adjustment like this for
the 2017 baseball season, it would help to mitigate the roster
crunch issues presently faced by not allowing SP's to be
rostered as UP. I think this kind of solution (reducing K
penatly) makes much more sense than allowing SP's to be rostered
in UP positions, but I've proposed a K penalty change nearly
every winter it feels like, and don't know if it's realistic to
expect that such a change could be passed by the league.
Therefore I bring up roster issues. If the K thing is worth
discussing and has a chance of passing, even better.

I would like to bring up guys like jurickson profar. He has to
be protected but hasnt playedin 2 years because of injury. He
is more than likely starting in minors and I would like to
protect himthere. It is a special circumstance and would have
to be a unique siuation like this to be discussed

Totally in favor of a "DL keeper spot".
