Records: Ditka son's DUI charge upgraded to felony[/center]
A drunk-driving charge against Michael P. Ditka, the son of
former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka, has been upgraded to a
felony because of two previous charges of drunken driving
against him in Lake County, court and police documents show.
Court documents from Cook County also show that the younger
Ditka had another prior DUI arrest in Cook County – bringing his
total to at least four.

So an old buddy of mine ran into my wife at our daughters award
ceremony and gave her his number to give to me. The guy used to
be a singer and guitar player in my first band. He lived across
the street when we were growing up.
He lived with me and my mom for a bit when his family moved
away. Anyway we lost touch and last time I saw him was probably
15 years ago and quite a few before that. Last I heard he was
in jail for selling cocaine.
So I am dreading calling him imagining he is going to want to
borrow money or invest money in his drug business. Both of
which I would have said no. The other option was he may have
cleaned up and just wanted to hang or try another band.
Well my wife gets a friend request from him on face book. Turns
out he is married now and is a born again christian. I am very
happy he has turned his life around but am now dreading the call
even more. Seems his whole family is born again, his mother,
his wife, his sister and he went through some school and is now
a minister.
Now if I call him I have to get preached at. From the guy who
borrowed my one hitter and threw it out the window when a cop
got behind him. (the paranoia). The same guy who asked and I
gave the money to to buy a bag of weed so he could sell it as
joints and we split the money. All of this when we were
teenagers and early 20's.
I am dreading this call the dude is a minister now and we all
know the guys who sinned the worst seem to go hard core when
they fine the lord. Look at Sporty! :)
Anyway I will have to make the call here in the next day or so.
Wish me luck. Hopefully it will be cool.

Solution: don't call. You've both moved on.

Call him Peke, I'm sure he just wants to catch up. Just because
he is a Christian doesn't mean he is a brow beating Bible
thumping kind. Sure he cares about where you're going when you
die but he has to be your friend in order to do that.
I mean if worse comes to worse you can always hang up. Besides,
if he brings up the subject just hear him out. If you decide it
is for you then great, if you don't then tell him you aren't
interested. He will have performed his duty and you'll have made
your choice.
I'm one of those Christians and I have friends and family that
aren't and while I sometimes talk to them about church and
related things the last thing I want to do is drive them away
from me or alienate them. He likely knows he'll have a better
chance of "reaching" you if he just takes his time and waits for
the right time, shoot you might even find sometime you want to
talk to him about it and see if there is any difference in his
life. Sounds like from what he used to be it might have done him
some good :-)
