The Pick: Linebacker Reggie Ragland, Alabama
A do-it-all linebacker with the size to play inside of a 3-4
scheme at "Mike" linebacker? Yep, that's exactly what the
Chicago Bears need.
Ragland comes to the NFL game-ready, and with his experience in
Alabama's 3-4 scheme, he's a natural fit in what defensive
coordinator Vic Fangio likes to do. Ragland can line up in that
middle linebacker spot, and his college film shows a player who
can rush the passer and lock up athletic tight ends.
Ragland may not test exceptionally well, but he's a true
three-down linebacker with the run-stuffing chops to change this
defense.

That's a pretty good choice

A run stuffing linebacker that may not test exceptionally well
(read - slow)?
How many games have we lost this year because we couldn't stop
the opposing teams running back?
We've got soooo many other needs: guard and/or tackle; maybe
WR, defensive line, safety, CB, maybe TE now, maybe WR (depends
on KWhite).
And I think we're solid at MLB with McClellan, Christian Jones,
and rookie Jonathon Anderson. This guy would have to be far and
away better than anyone else when our draft spot comes up.

Sorry but I beg to disagree with the statement we are SOLID with
McClellan at MLB. He is a weak link.

He's not playing like a pro bowler but I think he's doing a
solid job. Certainly he can be upgraded and he might since he's
a FA. But I don't see teams running all over him.
I think we have more problems with our front 3 guys than our
LBs.
You want to fix a weak link? How about Tracy Porter's RCB spot
when he leaves in free agency? Or how about a strong safety?
Or is your dissatisfaction with McClellan because you blame him
for giving up the long Gabbert TD?

McClellan is a JAG. I think because he was picked so high we
expected better.
I have no problem with them keeping him on the cheap. He makes
a play here and there but he is not a game changer. Just
another guy.

McClellan is a game changer! (No one ever said).
Can he be upgraded? Yes
All I'm saying is if you upgrade ILB with your first round pick
he better be a stud.

Shea gets pushed around, cant get off blocks, and seems to be a
step slow or out of position. It has nothing to do with this
last game, I haven't liked him all year. And I would like to
see someone more stout playing ILB. I think the D started to
make strides when he was out injured.

He seems to not have a position in the NFL. MLB has been his
least bad spot. He is a mediocre average mlb.
