Watching the good defenses in the playoffs today, one thing
really stands out-the speed of the backers. We really need to
       improve that area badly.

I wonder if Fox could get us a shot at Von Miller from Denver.
Ya think? There are a lot of very good players on that list and
we will have a lot of cash to spend

It almost seems that highly touted free agents rarely make it to
free agency, especially on the left side of 30

DEN ILB Brandon Marshall is a FA. We should sign him, and that
might make Alshon happy again. lol

       Kiper is usually wrong....
ESPN mock: Bears draft next great inside linebacker
WRITTEN BY PATRICK FINLEY POSTED: 01/14/2016, 10:31AM
The Bears will draft their next great inside linebacker —
according to a (very early) mock draft released Thursday by
       ESPN.com’s Mel Kiper.
Kiper has the Bears selecting Alabama’s Reggie Ragland — an
inside linebacker in national champion Alabama’s 3-4 defense —
with the No. 11 overall pick on April 28.
“The Bears have a tradition of great linebackers in the middle,
from Dick Butkus to Mike Singletary to Brian Urlacher (who is
coming for my hair),” the well-coifed Kiper wrote. “Ragland can
be the next one, and not only can he be an immediate starter in
the middle, he can do so with some system familiarity coming out
       of Nick Saban’s 3-4 defense.”
The 6-foot-2, 252-pounder was the SEC Defensive Player of the
       Year.

I don't know much about Ragland but if I was drafting an ILB in
the first round he'd have to be fast and be a 3 down guy that
has shown he can drop into coverage.
ILB, OLB, DT/DE, CB, safety - just draft the guy with the
       highest grade and he'll play.

It’s never too early to think about the NFL Draft, so we did a
quick Internet search and discovered who 10 analysts think the
Bears are going to pick at No. 11.
       Chris Burke, Sports Illustrated
       Pick: Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland
Analysis: “We’re well within the range—perhaps even a bit below
it—where Notre Dame’s Jaylon Smith should land if his knee
injury turns out to be minor. Ragland, the AP Defensive Player
of the Year, won't linger very long either. He can cover but
excels downhill vs. the run. A great fit for Vic Fangio's
       linebacker-needy defense.”
       Dane Brugler, CBS Sports
Pick: UCLA outside linebacker Myles Jack
Analysis: “The Bears are far removed from the days of Brian
Urlacher and Lance Briggs dominating the NFC and are missing
impact defensive players on the current roster. Jack is an
impressive athlete with outstanding instincts, showing the cover
skills that will make him an instant contributor.”
       Drafttek.com
Pick: Alabama defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson
Analysis: A sure star as a 4-3 DT, Robinson has also shown the
pursuit and pass rush abilities to be a devastating DE in a 3-4.
The Bears’ defense showed improvement this year, but the edict
in this draft will be BPA throughout. At #11, Robinson is the
kind of monster that would be impossible to pass up.”
       John Harris, Washington Post
Pick: Notre Dame left tackle Ronnie Stanley
Analysis: “There seems to be a hole at LT that can be filled
rather easily, based on how the board has stacked up to this
       point.”
       Matt Miller, Bleacher Report
Pick: Georgia outside linebacker Leonard Floyd
Analysis: “The Chicago Bears would love to get a left tackle
here, but as of today there's not a player of great value on the
board. I also considered Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith, but
with uncertainty over his knee injury suffered in the Fiesta
Bowl, he's a little risky for the Bears front office. A player
who isn't a big risk, and fills a need, is Leonard Floyd. The
Georgia edge-rusher is built for Vic Fangio's scheme at 6'4" and
231 pounds (with room to grow), and his ability to play rushing
the passer or in coverage against tight ends adds even more
value to his impressive resume. With [Joey] Bosa off the board,
Floyd is the best edge defender available in this class.”
       Mel Kiper, Jr., ESPN
       Pick: Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland
Analysis: “The Bears have a tradition of great linebackers in
the middle, from Dick Butkus to Mike Singletary to Brian
Urlacher -- who is coming for my hair. Ragland can be the next
one, and not only can he be an immediate starter in the middle,
he can do so with some system familiarity coming out of Nick
       Saban's 3-4 defense.”
       NFLDraftGeek.com
Pick: Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith
Analysis: “Despite his injury in the Fiesta Bowl, Chicago
landing an eventually healthy Jaylon Smith has to be a
tantalizing thought for Bears fans who are dying to see their
defense return to form. After swinging and missing on Jon Bostic
to replace Brian Urlacher, the Bears struggled mightily to stop
the run this year and gave up over 120 yards per game on the
ground. Maybe more than anything though, the Bears lack
leadership on the defensive side of the ball. Not only is Jaylon
Smith a world-class player and athlete, but he's also a
tremendous leader and motivator; the type of captain who makes
his teammates better. Although Smith's setback is bad news, it
shouldn't derail his stock which was trending towards the top
       five prior to the injury.”
       Rob Rang, CBS Sports
Pick: Georgia outside linebacker Leonard Floyd
Analysis: “John Fox surprised many when he pushed for the Denver
Broncos to select the "too small" Von Miller with the No. 2
overall pick back in 2011. He could see similar production ready
to be gained with Floyd, a speedy edge rusher with experience
attacking off the edge in the 3-4 and possessing the surprising
strength and tenacity to also hold up in run production.”
       SBNation.com
Pick: Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith
Analysis: “With this pick the assumption is that Smith will be
able to bounce back fine from the severe injury he suffered in
Notre Dame's bowl game. The opinion on his health situation is
arguably the biggest storyline of draft season. Healthy, Smith
is a top 10 pick. If there are concerns, he could plummet.
Landing in Chicago feels like a happy medium for now. He would
solve Chicago's longtime issues at inside linebacker, and give
the team a strong piece to build around.”
       WalterFootball.com
Pick: Alabama defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson
Analysis: “The Bears need as much defensive help as possible as
they continue to transition into their new 3-4 scheme. The
defensive line is comprised of mediocre players, at best, so
this is an area the front office will have to upgrade this
offseason. A'Shawn Robinson would be a huge boost, as he could
go as high as No. 6 to the Ravens.”
