That's 40M a year? I thought you meant 40M over 3. 40M a year
means you have one player taking up one third of your payroll.
Even Pujols couldn't make the Cardinals do that.

Once again, I am not trying to guess or predict what the Cubs
will do. I am saying what I would do. Price is more likely to
be worth close to 40 million per year for 2016 - 2018 than he is
likely to be worth 30 million per year for 2019 - 2022.

openings other than the Cubs. Thanks.

I wouldn't be adverse to putting a package surrounding Soler or
Baez for Sonny Grey.

Probably wouldn't be averse to it, either.

Kind of funny that 10 teams gets into playoffs, 1/3 of all
teams, yet only 1/7 of the top 7 payrolls (Dodgers) got in, and
even they couldn't win a series.

It really is not all that unusual. Much as in politics, people
blindly assume that big spending equals success, even when
history shows otherwise.

Forgot which of the national beat guys bet his life that Gray
gets traded this winter.
Soler makes sense for an organization that values a guy that
walks, devalues defense....
Baez becomes everyday starter at third. Bryant moves to right.

Can't believe the fascination with Lackey. He'll be 37-1/2 and
Cardinals magic dust isn't the same as Cubs magic dust. You are
courting disaster there.
And the problem with Baez as everyday starter is he has not
proven he's an everyday ML player yet.

I believe Span is looking for a 1 year pillow contract. If he
proves himself and is healthy he could be a guy the Cubs give a
QO to next year. He had surgery to repair his labrum on his hip,
so hopefully that would keep him healthy for a year.

Arizona Phil with lengthy piece (see comments also) about 40-man
roster decisions.
Says most likely candidates, in order, to be added to the
40-man are:
1. Contreras 2. P. Johnson 3. Candelario 4. Vogelbach 5.
Felix Pena 6. Black 7. Carlos Pimentel.

Thanks for interesting link. First three are locks. Cubs have
lots of 40-man room, so lots of space. But not much purpose for
rostering Vogelbach or the others. I suppose Pena or Pimentel
might have some use as DH-pitcher or as Iowa yo-yo. But not
much pressure here, that's for sure.
