One #2 starter, one #3 starter, one elite lefty reliever.

Get David Price and John Lackey, call it an offseason.

       Today is Lackey's 37th birthday.

Yeah, I don't see the interest in Lackey, for what he'll cost.
Had a phenomenal year. But he's OLD. And by Jesmath or
regular math, seems quite likely to decline in a hurry.

[/quote]Exactly. So you get him for a two year contract and
spend the big money elsewhere. Then in two years, go get a
       spring chicken like Bartolo Colon.

I'm not averse to signing Lackey, although I think the Blauser
Effect might be at play here.

I wish we knew exactly what the organization feels about
Contreras. If they believe he is for real and that he could be
a decent contributor next year both offensively and defensively,
I would love to see them trade Montero, paying the majority of
his salary, for the best pitcher he could bring.

If they thought he might be ready by Opening Day, they would
have promoted him to AAA when they recalled Schwarber. They
certainly wouldn't trade Montero unless they were sure Contreras
was ready now. Barring an injury to Ross or Montero, I doubt
that he'll reach Chicago before September.
