If Maddon does that, it's basically getting LaStella into lineup
       over Coghlan.

Who is playing right in this scenario? Certainly not Schwarber
which means he's out. Not sure Soler against Cole is a winning
       matchup either.

Schwarber has played a few games in RF, so I wouldn't assume he
isn't playing. Somebody mentioned that LF was large in
Pittsburg, so it would make sense to flop Byrant and Schwarber
in that situation. Bryant likely has the better range than
       Schwarber or Coghlan.

I don't see the logic in weakening the defense in order to get
LaStella's bat in the lineup in place of Coghlan's.

Coghlan has played right. Who knows which of those two Maddon
would start. Coghlan just got three hits the other day.
Heh heh, if Maddon does go with LaStella 3rd, Bryant left, and
Schwarber right, I think that would really speak to Maddon's
valuation of hitting and offense. You'd then have four guys
playing positions that aren't their primary spots and where they
aren't the best defenders of those who have played there often.
*2B isn't Castro's most familiar spot, and he's not as good as
       Baez or Russell there.
*3B isn't Lastella's most familiar spot, and he's certainly not
as good as Bryant there, or Baez.
*LF isn't Bryant's most familiar spot. Not sure he's as good as
       Coghlan there.
*RF certainly isn't Schwarber's most familiar spot, having
played it what, once?, since college? Or did he play twice last
week there? Doubt he's as good as Coghlan there.

HR-hitters may be especially important against an ace. Ace
won't make a lot of mistakes in an inning, hard to bunch hits.
One or two quick-strike HR's may decide a game.

I agree with that reasoning. I would prefer Schwarber in the
outfield along with Bryant. I would rather see Baez at third
base, but I believe Maddon wants to get as many left handers
       into the lineup as practical.
LaStella and Castro are probably a better choice than LaStella
       and Baez.

[/quote]Maddon may be concerned about a young team not getting
out of the box early and then start to press, so get the bats in
       there early.

Castro has good numbers against Cole and has been hot. I'm not
a Castro fan but he deserves to start the game.
I am worried about LaStella. I've mentioned a couple of times
that I firmly believe the Pirates are going to bunt several
times tomorrow. I saw Marte and Polanco bunting in their last
two series. The Pirates have to know that if they can get one
of their speed guys on base with no one out, they can easily
steal on Arrieta and Montero. Steal a base, sac bunt, and try
to get an early run. That is my biggest worry in this game is
that the Pirates with their speed may be able to manufacture a
run or two. The Cubs will likely need to get some timely hits
or hit a long ball. Cervelli is not very good at throwing out
runners so if we get someone on late in the game, Berry may be a
big key. If it was me, I start Bryant at 3B and Coghlan in LF.
But, I trust that Maddon obviously knows what he is doing.
