Levine is reporting that the Cubs have interest in Sam Fuld.
He's basically a left handed batting Szczur, so I don't really
       get the interest.

I don't get it either. I like Sam, but we have lefty hitters
and he's basically defense. Of course, didn't he play for
       Maddon in TB?

You were spot on about Baez, Jes. They will presumably bring
Baez up in September and give him some starts to see if he might
be able to contribute significantly in the push to the playoffs
(and hopefully the playoffs). If he doesn't show much, he'll be
a HR threat off the bench.
       [/quote]
Unless he struggles initially, or Maddon has some other actually
hot-hitting option available on the bench at that time, if the
Cubs are in the race once Baez is called up, I would expect him
to get more than some starts, I would expect him to start most
of the games he is up. Maddon and the front office will both
likely see it as an opportunity to give him some pennant race
experience, and will also hope his bat can provide a boost to
the offense. It wouldn't be surprising to see him brought up
the day before the deadline for making the playoff roster if it
still appears the Cubs have a real shot for it by then.

Also made it to the playoffs twice with Maddon teams. Maddon
even used him once in relief. If the Cubs are looking at him,
it is likely at Maddon's urging.

#Cubs place Ross on bereavement list and recall Szczur from
       Iowa. Ross' grandmother passed away
Is there a record for how many times a player has gone up and
down? Matt Szczur has to be nearing it.
