Bruce Miles with an article with richer quotes from both Maddon
and Theo on Castro's role. It includes this from Maddon:
"Like I told Starlin, it's not a day off," Maddon said of the
benching. "I want him to understand that upfront. It's something
that's going to be considered daily. I did not give him any
promises regarding how he's going to be utilized other than
just, 'Stay ready off the bench.' I didn't want to give him any
kind of false promises."

Theo, from the Miles piece:
"Yeah, it's that time of year, no doubt about it. The position
that we're in, the manager has to have the unfettered ability to
put the team on the field every single game, every single
inning, that he thinks puts the club in the best position to
win.
"I don't think (there are) any permanent moves or anything like
that, but I think with some of the pieces we have coming back
(from the disabled list) and the way Schwarber is swinging the
bat, there are going to be a lot of options for him, and he just
has to be able to play the matchups, play the hot hand and put
the best team on the field."
When both Montero and LaStella are ready to contribute, assuming
Schwarber continues to hit, Maddon will need to be a fair amount
of juggling. Seems likely that Castro and Soler are both pretty
at risk. Soler had another sketchy day in the field today and
I'm not sure how long Maddon is going to put up with that.

Soler's been getting hits and getting on base. Not sure that
will last, but nice.

He's been laying off the slider. Monetero playing catcher won't
really change much. The question will come down to LaStella vs
Soler. I have a hard time believing that LaStella is going to
move Soler to the bench.

As much as Maddon likes to move players around the field, there
are some limits to that. If Montero is catching then Schwarber
will be in LF unless he's on the bench (not likely while he's
hitting well). If Schwarber's in LF, I expect Maddon to find a
place for Coghlan, who has been one of the most consistent Cubs
offensively. And I don't expect him to be playing 2B on a
regular basis. The way Russell has been playing, he's certainly
going to be in the lineup at either SS or 2B, save for a rare
day off maybe. I expect LaStella to get a decent amount of
playing time at 2B, unless/until he fails to produce. If
Coghlan's not at 2B, and Schwarber is in LF, the only place left
is RF. So, to me, the two guys most likely to lose playing
time, based on current performance, are Castro and Soler.

LaStella is going to have to prove he can hit before he's
sending anybody to the bench. His defense is so so at 2B and in
his limited time he's produced a wRC+ of 83 Barney in 2011,
2012 was 79, 75 for comparison. Solar has struggled with the
bat so far, but he's showing signs of turning it around.
