Jesse Rogers reporting that Lester will start on Friday, with
Hendricks moving to Saturday.
[/quote]
So the rotation would be Lester, Hendricks, Arietta, Haren and
Hammels. Arietta pitching between our nominal #4 and 5 starters
could help balance the workload for the bullpen.

Mooney with an interesting piece about possible lineup
adjustments to come.

I'll be at the Friday game, so will see Lester pitch two
straight times. It's fun to go to Wrigley for games that matter.
This will be my fifth game this season, the most in at least 26
years, probably longer (though I wasn't living in Chicago for 22
of those years). But the prices these days sure makes going to
games a lot more painful in the pocketbook.

Clayton Richard elects for free agency, then re-signs with the
Cubs.
Rafael Soriano to the DL with "shoulder inflammation," and
Richard will pitch out of the pen.

That shoulder must be really hurting . . .

Guessing Soriano's shoulder will feel better right around
September 1.
Wonder if they got Soriano and Richard in same room and
discussed how to balance Soriano's "shoulder" with Richard's
free agency rights.

Does that ensure that Soriano will get his full salary? Seems
very kind, could have just released him.

Soriano has pro-rated $4.1 deal.
Releases of one-year guys in spring training, with partial
termination play, for non-guaranteed contracts--don't think
applies here in August. So, guessing contract is guaranteed.
Arrangement serves everybody's interests: Cubs get to keep both
and both will be on expanded September roster; Richard is in big
leagues now and for rest of season; Soriano doesn't have to go
home or pitch at Iowa, will be in majors in September, and has a
chance to look good for 2016 free agency. Win, win, and win.
