Don't the Phillies play the Cubs again? I think that explains
the scouts. If the Cubs trade for Utley is likely a minor
leaguer, unless they want Herrera.

Rogers was surmising that Castro or Coghlan might be part of a
"package" for Utley.

It's good experience for the young Cubs to realize that, in a
playoff chase, you cannot count on getting any help from other
teams vs. your rivals.

Heyman and Rosenthal are reporting that Utley, if he goes
anywhere, wants to go to California. Rosenthal also mentioned
that the Cubs tried to trade for him before the trade deadline,
whe he was in the DL.

Utley lives in San Francisco. He plays golf at the same course
I play north of San Francisco (Bud Norris plays there, too).
Utley is there quite a bit in the winter. My 16-year old son
went up to him on the range once...he could not have been nicer
to my kid...chatted with him for several minutes.
Apparently, he's a very good dude who gives a lot back to the
community and is really interested in helping kids. Someone
around here said his wife leads a small day-care facility that
his kid(s) attend, but I don't know if that's true. At any
rate, everyone seems to agree he's a class act tho' the fit with
the Cubs isn't obvious to me.
