Montero and Ross among latest framing leaders.
Schwarber not so hot.
W. Castillo must have had framing "hot hand" with Cubs--back in
a framing slump. Hard to believe, but Yadier Molina way better
framer than Castillo, apparently.

My patience with Schwarber is running out. Good lord, boy,
you've had a whole 16 games behind the plate to become Yogi
Yadier Gabby Pudge Bench, and you've failed! You lazy bastard,
get to work.

Castillo is basically league average. Last year he was -20 or
so, that is a huge improvement. That is basically where he was
before. Molina has improved from earlier, but earlier in the
year he was below average.so his knee might have affected it a
fair amount. Schwarber is more or less league average as well
(BP has him at -0.6 runs) as well. They aren't horrible, just
average.

Jonah Keri has a piece up about Schwarber (and others) at
Grantland and his view of Schwarber's advanced defensive
metrics, including framing, is that his defense so far has been

I think we've had this discussion before, but BP has much better
pitch framing stats than stat corner. They correct for things
like pitcher and umpire that stat corner does not. BP has him at
-0.6. He has work to do defensively at catcher, I don't think
I've ever said otherwise. Theo just today said his future is a
catcher.

Think I said a month ago that expected Schwarber to catch about
40 games in majors in 2016, so yeah think that catching
development is still on at this point. Premature for Theo to say
or do otherwise.

If Schwarber catches 90, either Montero or Ross won't be back,
seems to me. Possible, but seems doubtful that will happen.
90 for Schwarber, Ross catching Lester's 32, not enough for
Montero. Even 70 for Schwarber doesn't leave enough for Montero
if Ross back.
Given that Schwarber figures to catch very little remainder of
2015, hard to see where catching progess comes going forward
this season.
Will he open 2016 as starting catcher based on where he is now
defensively?
Don't see that happening. Think Montero will be back and good
luck trading a $14 catcher during season. Also Think brass wants
Ross back for 2nd year of his deal. They seem to love the guy.
40 or so is okay in 2016 for Schwarber if still want to develop
him as a catcher. Can still learn and if progresses, can catch a
lot more in 2017. If doesn't progress, at least they gave it a
shot and he'll already be very familiar with LF.
