Maybe he just wants to get Herrera some at bats. He's only had

Well, it's not just today that La Stella hasn't played. I don't
think we've seen him start since the first or second game.
But now Jesse Rogers tells us why La Stella isn't playing:

Tommy La Stella has a strain on his side (oblique?) so that's
why Herrera starting. Olt might be avail after hit by pitch

Ive never seen a manager put together an uglier lineup than Joe
Maddon.
Maybe its one of those things Im old school about like taking so
long to accept the OPS stat (I do now) but they're just awful
odd.

I mean wouldnt Fowler, Coghlan, Castro, Rizzo, Soler, Montero,
Alcantara, Herrera, Hendricks look more normal?
I was never as crazy about Maddon as the majority here is but I
just wonder how long his wierdness will fly especially if we
arent winning.
My bet is we'll be so loaded we'll win in spite of it and even
further cement his supposed genius reputation but my guess is it
wont be because of him.
And no Im not jumping off the Maddon train.
I was never on it in the first place.

I'll admit, that thought has crossed my mind a couple of times.
Of course, the season is a marathon, not a sprint.

I believe that the least important position on a team, as far as
tactical in-game decisions are concerned, is the manager. And
the single least important thing the manager does is construct
the line up. Short of batting the pitcher in the first 7
positions, there is little he can do to help or hurt the team.

Is the goal to win, or to have a lineup that "looks... normal"?
I get cofused on such things.

If the Cubs win this year with the current makeup of the team,
it certainly will not be because they are loaded with talent.
And if the Cubs win in 2016 or 2017 while relying primarily on
home grown talent coming up thru the farm system, to whatever
extent the team would be "loaded with talent," Maddon would
likely have been instrumental in developing it to the point it
was seriously contributing at the major league level.

The only thing I'd do different is flop Couglin and Soler. 1,
2, 4 are the most important positions. 6-9 have little effect,
except for hitting the pitcher 8th.
