speaking of Montero's at bat (and, yes, both he and LaStella hit
balls that would have been out on most days in
June-through-September): he and Coghlan both batted in the 7th
against a lefty when Maddon had Szczur and Castillo/Ross
available to pinch hit. Most managers would have pinch hit, I
bet, but Maddon had his reasons and it paid off.

Shasson, really glad you were there with your 10-year old...he
will have fond memories of that game with his Dad 50 years from
now.

2 games in the first 5 days of the season. So the Cubs are only
a week away from Bryant and have only played 2 games? Probably
a good thing overall but all the offdays sure suck for the fans.

Nothing much better in this world than to have memories made at
the old ballpark, especially with your children.

If the Cubs bring Bryant up the first day he is eligible it'll
look ridiculous considering their earlier claims, and they'll be
looking at a mountain of negative coverage. I'd be shocked if
they do that.

Seems to me that they already gave a big FU to the media and
people who were urging them to not send Bryant down, so another
FU by bringing him at first opportunity wouldn't shock me at
all.
It would be another way to say to Bryant, "See? We noticed you
were ready. We respect you. This is strictly business."

It will look quite phoney if they don't wait three days. That
would be enough to prove that his defense has come around.
