Whooops. Thanks for the correction, Reb. That guy Rizzo is
going to get on base a lot.

J.D. noted that Strop had a very low opp BA against LH hitters,
and assumed that was why he brought him in rather than letting
Ramirez stay in. It's nice to have a manager in whom you have a
great deal of confidence.

If they actually push through that rule that an rp must face at
least 2guys, Strop will be even more valuable.

I was irrationally happy by this win (was there with my 10 year
old son). I actually really liked the giant video board, they
manage it well so that it supplements stuff -- you still need to
look at the old scoreboard for balls/strikes/outs per inning
(and the scoreboard operator still puts up ball or strike
seemingly before the umpire actually signals it).
Soler's triple was hit appreciably harder than any other ball
all day. Just a screamer.
My son noticed that the "W" on the Wintrust sign above the video
board flashes on and off after a win, which was a nice touch.
Small crowd,so no bathroom or concession stand lines. Meat-head
Cubs' fans around me tabbed Castro as the guy they boo (sigh),
and there were way too many Cards' fans there. But, still, a
great day.

Yeah, that was interesting. Ramirez was lights out against
lefties too last season (actually a bit better than Strop) but
Strop has the longer track record against lefties. I guess
that's the rationale. In any case, seems like Cubs are a lefty
short in the bullpen, although great to see Coke throwing so
well. If Coke can keep doing that, not a problem.
Once the third catcher situation plays out, I would not be
surprised to see Cubs go with an 8-man bullpen for a
time--adding Wada when he's ready to go, or even Rosscup if an
opening develops.

I was really into today's game, for the first time in years.
And I hate that there are fans of other teams flooding Wrigley
now but that should remedy itself soon enough.

Don't sleep on Britton as a lefty option. His stuff is nasty if
he can get it over the plate.

Castro shouldn't be the whipping boy. That's the media pushing.

I listed to part of radio, they said that LaStella crushed his
ball to the warning track, that his ball and Montero's would
both have been HR on a lot of days. Great outing by Arrieta.
Really good small-ball execution in the 7th inning. Montero
getting the run in. Bullpen sharp again. We've already
caught the Cardinals.
