Why is it that Lester doesn't throw? He's got the yips? He's
got a psychological thing? He balks if he tries?
Seems like a curious thing for a veteran lefty. I'm sure the
story was told before and when we signed him, but I think I was
so enthused about the Cubs adding a good player and what that
meant for the present/future that I don't think I recall the
throwing-to-first bit.
How did he look otherwise? Like his arm and velocity and
movement and everything were fine, he just wasn't sharp because
he hasn't pitched much? Or is his arm perhaps still variably
dead?

The yips. I didn't know about it. For some reason it was not
well known. ESPN showed a graphic last night that he just plain
stopped throwing to first a couple of years ago. I think the
prevailing thought was that his move was so good nobody took a
big lead, but now...

Good velocity, no breaking ball, no changeup, poor command.

Uh, cane-man, it was one game out of 162. If you are going to
make conclusions based on one game, you are going to have a hell
of a roller coaster ride all year.

Having watched this team the last 5 years I realize now I have
emotionally divested myself of them. I wasn't upset at how
erratic Lester looked, the defensive miscues, the anemic
offense. I just didn't care enough to get upset. What's weird
is I thought I was excited about this season, this team. I am
hoping that with a string of good play they'll make me a
believer. Until then I'll watch but I just can't get too
worked up about this.

The truly sad part is that, if Epstein/Maddon fail, there is no
chance that they will ever, ever win.

He will fit right in then. Feast or famine - not a lot of middle
ground for some Cub fans here it seems.

While Sunday night's game was not very memorable, we have to
give some credit to Adam Wainwright.

best seller...just a hint...
