Dave - Not sure if you are referencing my post, but when I said
that this seemed to hint of trading one or more top prospects, I
didn't mean to suggest this was in any way imminent. I was
thinking of a somewhat longer timetable - perhaps shortly
before, during or after the 2015 season. I was simply trying to
imagine what the long term intentions are for the front office.

Ron - I was speaking in general. I believe that next winter we
will be in a much better situation to make decisions about our
shortstop group. All but one will have had a year or more to
show what they have. And I still feel that we will not have to
wait until June to see Bryant in the majors.
We will also have a much better feel for our other needs. If we
sign Lester and get lucky on a mid tier free agent pitcher, our
needs might look substantially different.
That doesn't mean that we should ignore overwhelming trade
offers in the meantime. I just don't believe that Wheeler for
one of our shortstops is overwhelming.
Wheeler and Syndergaard for Baez or Castro is a different thing.

According to Jesse Rogers, Bill Mueller has resigned as hitting
coach.

That seems weird. I thought all of the coaching staff was
expected back, so I guess that has to be Mueller's decision.
Too bad ... it seems like he did a fine job this season.

The whole problem with these speculations is that we don't know
what players the FO may WANT from another team so badly that
they have to give up Russell or, perhaps, that's the only player
they'll consider. In fantasy leagues, yeah, you can find some
sucker to take your high K guy, but maybe not so much in real
life.

Wow. Mueller resigning is a huge surprise to me. Could the
rumored idea of bringing Ramirez to work with him be a factor?

I've seen a few tweets saying that Mueller's resignation wasn't
that much of a shock, and it was amicable. But, he was
apparently not sure if he wanted to do it in the first place,
and he was close with Brumley...so him leaving made it easier to
resign.

You can't have a lineup of high K types and mediocre or poor
hitting w/RISP. The latter is not readily controllable and can
be mitigated only by increasing the number of run scoring
opporunities (and number of HRs). A few high OBP guys at the
top of the lineup would be ideal.

How about Manny as the new hitting coach? That would be pretty
crazy wouldn't it?

I have no problem with Manny as assistant hitting coach, but I
would hope they would get someone with a track record as the
head coach.
