Renteria has been asked to be the outhouse manager, checking the
troughs at Wrigley for quality control.

       Not for Curt.

Not harsh, I feel for the guy. You wait for years for your
chance to manage, and, boom, you're done. Hope he gets another
       chance elsewhere.

candidate specifically if the Nationals (or Braves) decide they
would be willing to deal Span (or Heyward). He'd have a lot of
value to a team that is trying to contend now, but his history
of control problems make me think that this front office would
actively explore opportunities to sell high.

Yeah, I think Strop is a possibility. Could be lots of depth in
the bullpen without him if brass is feeling good about Grimm
building on his late-season showing and Rivero and Vizcaino make
an impact (of course, depth can fall apart quickly during
       season).
       But, won't be for Span.

I can't imagine that the Cubs could acquire Zobrist, Span or
Heyward without giving up a top prospect, depending, of course,
upon how you define "top prospects".

Well hiring Maddon is definitely exciting news if it's true.
Nice bold move by the Theocracy to go out and get him, even
though Renteria didn't do anything to deserve being fired.
Good luck to Renteria. He doesn't have much to be ashamed about
from his first year of managing.

I wonder if the Cubs took on Upton's contract what the cost for
       Hayward would be?

I feel for Renteria. In one way this is a shitty move by the
       Cubs.
On the other hand, maybe he'll get a better job with a better
       franchise.
It probably works out better for Ricky in the long run.
