Totally agree, P2, which is part of the reason I think
Wittenmyer is off base in the overall tenor he takes with the
Cubs.
Theo's job isn't to be as direct and candid as Terry Ryan, it's
to build a "foundation for sustained success" in an ethical
manner. As far as I know, Theo is doing just that.

Ethical?
If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'. --Either a Division I
football coach or a professional wrestler, I forget which.

Probably a D-I football coach. Pro wrestlers are much more
ethical and believable.

Cubs quality assurance coach Jose Castro has been hired by the
Braves to serve as their assistant hitting coach. That opens up
a spot for shifting of some coaching positions if Maddon is
hired.

Olney thinks Maddon is a lock for the Cubs on his podcast. Law
thinks Maddon is an ideal fit and mentions that the Cubs were
frustrated with Renteria's in game management. Both Law and
Olney think that the Cubs are positioned very well for
contention as yearly as next year.

Add Martin, an OFer, and a TOR starter and we could be pretty
good next year with or without Maddon.

Internally, the belief the Cubs will land Maddon is strong
enough that a source suggested team president Theo Epstein
traveled this weekend to Florida to meet with Maddon," writes
Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times. "Maddon's
Chicago-based agent, Alan Nero, said that's not true."

Theo knew better than to stop at a Starbucks while in Florida.
