Hold on a minute
I am still waiting, but I think we will have to wait till next
year to see any dramatic improvement in the defense. I still say
if I look at the last 2 PS games total together the back 9 just
suck horribly. To expect major improvement in the defense is
like believing there is a man in the moon who does eat green
cheese. Sorry I just don't buy that.

I think Washington got more playing time last night than he has
gotten since he was drafted (probably combined).

I agree. Unless Tucker is saving all of his "good" plays for
when the season counts, our LBs and DBs were getting picked
apart. And not just the guys who are going to get cut who
played last night. ALL PRESEASON.

I don't expect a whole lot from the D but if we show some
significant improvement over last year then I am satisfied. I
think it's completely unrealistic to think that we can go from
as bad as we were to playoff favorites in one season. This will
be a better Bears team than last year (if healthy) and I will
enjoy it.

The 2012 Bears were near the bottom offensively. They added a
TE and 4 new lineman and got lucky health-wise and were near the
top of the league offensively. Having McNown helped.
Not saying we'll see that dramatic of an improvement for our
defense from 2013 to 2014 but they too made some changes and if
they can keep healthy should be improved. But I agree there are
question marks (relating to age, injury history and just poor
play) associated with every starting defensive player...except
for maybe Lamar Houston.

I think Emery did an effective job patching the DLine but there
aren't enough draft picks to overhaul the whole defense. Will
that be enough to carry this team to the playoffs? Right now I
have enough doubts about that. Ask me again come halfway through
the season

I agree that the O turnaround was due in part to the Oline
staying healthy and playing well, but lets not discount the
impact Trestman/Kromer added. And I am sorry but I just don't
see Mel Tucker adding anything.

Good point. But Trestman/Kromer couldn't have been AS
successful without a solid pass-blocking o-line. And I do give
Kromer credit for Long and Mills progress especially.
As for Tucker his d-line talent was among the worst in the NFL -
lowest in sacks.
Games are often won in the trenches.

Are you sure you'll know by then? Maybe we should wait until
after the season.

Keys, what do you call significant improvement (I'm assuming
you're talking about the D side of the ball). To me significant
would mean middle ranking, let's say middle to upper teens
(ranking). If this D ended up being ranked 15th in the league I
would say they've improved "significantly". If they can do that,
I see this team easily being a playoff team. This offense is top
five (stay healthy could be top in the NFC), but we need at
least a semi decent D to get anywhere.
