I've been using Firefox for so long, I forgot it blocked ads.
My son, the IT pro, says IE has so many holes that most of your
common viruses are now targeting it rather than your email. He
prefers Chrome but at least insisted I go Firefox.

In case anyone noticed (or didn't) I made a quick and dirty BBF
favicon. So on your browsers link you should see a blue and red
BBF button. If anyone has a better 16x16 icon, I'd be happy to
use it.

Handy tip for FireFox users:
If you're a FireFox user and want to use a handy add-on that
they offer, try downloading NoSquint. For those of us
approaching or who have long passed the age of 45, you'll be
glad you did as NoSquint allows you to quickly change the zoom
level from site to site. Makes your web surfing much easier on
your eyes. Next to AdBlock Plus, it's the most valuable add-on
I've found for FireFox.

Visited several Cubs boards today...they're all dead. It's like
people who defend the Cubs management are exasperated; those
that attack Cubs management don't know what else to say; and a
lot of whatever is left is finding other things to do.
I wonder if this will start impacting attendance. Attendance
has been a little down, but we've all blamed the weather.
If it does impact attendance, will the response by the Ricketts
be right? Making even more trades, giving away the farm, is not
the right move. I'm not sure firing Hendry is the right move if
you replace him with a bigger idiot. I'm guessing he will bring
in somebody to control things above the GM, making Hendry answer
to someone before making moves. That will have Jimbo looking
for newer buffets elsewhere.

Just to play devil's advocate...I think it's hard to blame
Hendry for this season if you're like Ricketts and weren't
already anti-Hendry before the All Star Break last year. He did
the best he could with late season trades (unless you believe
that the Diamondbacks were willing to offer Kelly Johnson for
Theriot--and I still think that's a big stretch). His offseason
was fine: the Wood signing was great. Quade over Sandberg was
the right move, even if it turns out poorly. The reaction to
the Garza trade varies among experts and Cubs fans, but it's
pretty easy to argue for trading a lot to get an established,
durable 27 year old starter with untapped potential and 3 years
of team control. Even the Pena signing was good given the
alternatives...what should Hendry have done? Overpaid Huff even
more than the Giants did for 2 years? Given LaRoche 2 years?
Overbay? All of those are far worse moves than hoping Pena can
rebound for one year.
Hendry's last 9-10 months as GM have been fine...IMO, if you
liked him last July, you shouldn't have a problem with him now.
The team's performance so far is much more on the players.
Really...a month ago, would anyone on this board have
realistically predicted that Pena, Byrd, Colvin, Soto, and
Dempster would all be so brutally awful? I bet most would've
even predicted better things for Zambrano, Soriano, and Coleman.
And no one would have expected to have only 2 homers total
between Ramirez, Byrd, Pena, Soto, and Fukudome. No GM could
have foreseen such a complete implosion by so many players.
On the other hand, if you hated Hendry before last July, then
there is still plenty to criticize. But I don't think Ricketts
fits in that category, so I don't think changing baseball
operations staff will necessarily be his response to falling
attendance.
