alcohol-related

The stupidity of professional athletes never surprises me.
I'm amazed they can even get themselves out of bed in the
morning.

3. Poor Mike Leake. Assuming he really did shoplift those shirts
from a Cincinnati Macy's, the Reds' young pitcher is suffering
from a psychological condition that demands attention. The
question is whether his team can afford to spring him from the
pressures of a baseball season to get the help. He has pitched
well in two of his three starts, but that doesn't seem
especially relevant to this discussion. Keeping him in the
rotation and acting like he's anything other than a confused
23-year-old seems like the wrong thing to do.
Leake should have a long, successful career in the big leagues.
He needs to be allowed to take a step back and get help, whether
that means putting him on the disabled list or sending him to
the minors. In the short term, at least, he's a replaceable part
for Dusty Baker. He needs to get time to explore what caused him
to become baseball's version of Winona Ryder. He also needs
unconditional support from his organization, one that might not
have reached the playoffs in 2010 had he not essentially stepped
directly from the campus of Arizona State into a big-league
rotation. He has earned that support.

On the other hand, it's very possible Leake has always had his
own set of rules as a star athlete and is now finding out what
it is like in the real world.

How many times do you suppose he's been caught before and just
given a warning?
