If we had signed him he would be hitting .150, no homers, and be
on the DL.

The Red Sox put Bobby Jenks and Dan Wheeler on the 15-day DL.
They played a 13-inning rain delayed game last night that did
not end until 2:45 A.M.

I wish the Cubs could pull pitchers out of nowhere like the
Braves can. Brandon Beachy signed as an undrafted free agent,
and with less than 2 years in the minor leagues, he has 9
strikeouts in 5 innings against the Brewers.

The Red Sox are 14-17. The Cubs are 14-16.

The Cubs are one of the best organizations at developing
pitchers... I don't know that your perception of the Braves as
being superior is statistically accurate.

I guess I was thinking more of their current situation, tico.
The Cubs have a couple of injuries, and all they can come up
with is Coleman and Russell. But it seems like any time the
Braves have an opening in the rotation, they pull a Brandon
Beachy out of nowhere, or get a career year out of someone like
Jorge Campillo.

Yes, the Cubs have tended to do pretty well with pitchers. But
when they think their best choice is Jeff Russell and Davis, and
the top guys at Iowa are Thomas Diamond, JR Mathes, Austen
Bibbens-Dirx, and Jay Jackson, the reality is that we're quite
thin right now.
I admit I'd been really enthused about Tennessee's rotation, but
Rusin and Raley don't look like they're legit (Raley seems not
to have grown beyond his original fringy stuff); Dolis and
Carpenter have both been moved to relief (for good reasons, I
think); Cabrera appears to be pretty far removed from being
big-league ready. So Tennessee's closest are McNutt, who's
still awfully inexperienced and young, and Whitenack, who is
likewise inexperienced and young, and who wasn't included in
many top-30's this winter.
