OK, Bobby Valentine is starting to annoy me on Sunday Night
Baseball.
He just said that Robinson Cano was able to keep a ball fair,
fisting it into center field and that only good hitters can keep
a ball fair, into center field.
Fair ball -- center field.

Fuld nearly hit for the cycle last night and would have if he
stopped at first on a second double.
He's just having a hot start and will eventually cool off but
it's nice to see him doing well.

Brayan Villarreal pitched a third of an inning - without
throwing a pitch. Villarreal came on in the top of the seventh
for Detroit with a man on first and two outs Tuesday. Before
making a single pitch, he picked off Texas' Julio Borbon at
first to end the threat with the Tigers leading 4-3. That was it
for Villarreal. "He's quick. That's exactly why we brought him
in there," manager Jim Leyland said.

Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer has been placed on the DL with
bilateral leg weakness.
Sentiment in the Twin Cities is strongly in favor of moving him
to another position.

Next time someone wants to complain about Byrd hitting third,
remember it could be much, much worse:

The NCAA has come out with a midseason statistical study that
shows that, because of a 25 percent reduction of trampoline
effect on aluminum bats this year, home run production and runs
scored by baseball teams across the country are down by nearly
50 percent. The reigning Big Ten champion Gophers, who
perennially hit about .300, are hitting only .256 this season.
The NCAA this year required that aluminum bats, in an attempt to
get results more in line with wood bats, have thicker walls and
new balance regulations. The study also shows lower scoring,
improved pitching statistics and overall defensive stats, and a
25 percent reduction in the distance of balls hit.
Strange that no mention is made about pitchers being safer.

Adrian Gonzalez finally signed his contract extension with the
Red Sox...7 years, $154 million.
