I'm glad the media is grilling Emery on McClellin.
Not sure I'm buying everything he's selling but at least he's
addressing the issue in depth.

Part of this organizations problem is being slow to change what
isn't working and make it work...McClellin being a huge one.
I've said since the end of last season he'd be more productive
as a stand up OLB much like wth's his name in GB, Matthews. They
kept playing him out of position, even as it was painfully
obvious he was hurting the team there.....move at the pace of a
fricking dinosaur....

So basically Emery is saying they still haven't found a way to
use McClellin effectively.
C'mon really... how long does it take?

What if only the first 3 years are guaranteed?
If all that is guaranteed is the next 3 years at 18 per, that's
a great deal for the Bears...
We can't grade the deal until we know all the details...

If no one would be interested in McCown, even after seeing how
he lit it up game after game and his incredible QB rating,
poise, ability to make plays....it would be a shame. This guy
is, right now, better than half the freaking QB's playing as
starters in this league....

Except that it really crimps the money available to buy top-tier
FAs to fix our D. Especially if we can't get out from under the
Peppers contract.
I would rather we paid Cutler less the first couple of years and
then if he stays healthy and productive, ratchet up the pay in
later years when presumably we would have a solid core in place
on our D.

Whether that's true or not, teams looking for a QB generally
just don't bring in 35 year old career journeymen to lead their
teams.
obviously, Denver brought in an old man to lead their team, but
a) they weren't rebuilding, and b) he was hardly a career
backup.

Do some 'heavy nudging' of Pepper to go be with his pal, Lovie
in Bucland and take his considerably weighty contract with....

Well that's the big thing with McCown is his age. Hard to say
how long he could play at the level he's at. One or two years,
hard to say. His smartest bet should be to return here because
he'll have a chance to play here. If no one is interested, stay
put. He probably wouldn't be offered 'big' money to go
elsewhere, but possibly more than the Bears could offer....we'll
see.....

I'd much rather pay him the big $$ in his productive years than
be hamstrung with guaranteed high $ money in years 4-5-6, etc.,
when he's 4-5 years older...
