Spellman had 10 times the physical talent of McClellin... OT
size and wingspan with LB speed. When Zo's mind was right (which
was way too rare), he was virtually unblockable. Unfortunately
he was also uncoachable and had absolutely no personal
discipline which showed up on and off the field and eventually
undid him.
I see Shea Mac's game and best case ceiling being more like
Trace Armstrong though the Alex Brown comparison also works.

Spellman was bi-polar and wasn't diagnosed with it until going
to the Cowboys.
He was fast and powerful and gave consistently gave 100% effort
but really didn't have any moves besides the bull rush to go
after the passer. He had more success when the Cowboys moved
him inside and medicated him.
I'm thinking maybe its time we do the same to Peppers...move him
inside that is.

I remember so many times Zo just destroying the OT in front of
him and then running right past the QB.
Quite possibly the most frustrating Bear I've ever watched play
because he had All Pro physical gifts but zero football
instincts and a complete trainwreck in his personal life. If he
had had a Brandon Marshall type mentor enter his life at the
right time he may have been a Hall of Famer but it wasnt meant
to be.

I don't think McClellin compares with Trace Armstrong or Alex
Brown or Spellman. He is small and looks puny getting engulfed
by OTs. He cant shed blocks or hold the edge. He gets pushed
around a lot. He has/had speed but that is about it.

Trace Armstrong was about 6'4 265 IIRC. Bigger than McClellin
but not by much.
I think McClellin is just one of those guys who plays smaller
than his size.

It's in the 2012 NFL Draft topic, near the bottom of the
archives...

Not too many of us liked the McClellin pick. I hated it. I like
that he finally sacked Rodgers....that's about the only
memorable play he's made....

I think Alex Brown and McClellin were both around 6-3 260.
Brown was your lunch pail type player - played the run tough and
recorded 6 or 7 sacks each and every year.
Armstrong's problem was that he came a few years after Dent and
Hampton and was never full appreciated. He had over 100 career
sacks and had double digit sacks 4 times in his career - most of
his sacks came while he was a Dolphin.

he lists 6'3, 260 but he looks smaller than that.
Urlacher was only 1" taller but looked much bigger.
I know compared to Peppers and Wooten most DE's looks small.
Does Shea get much time at RDE?
